Alloy Protection

Hi All

Just a quick one...what do people use to protect their Alloys. Some kind of Rim Wax or just standard polish?

Poorboys wheel sealant is one of the best to use, makes cleaning the wheels easy and you can just reapply every couple of months.

Planet Polish Wheel Seal or Gtechniq C5 - both excellent.

C5 is expensive but lasts a VERY long time.

If silver I have tried all sorts but after a good clean I have used turtle wax colour magic silver covered with Gtechniq C2 or C5

If you very regularly clean your wheels even if it is just with the wash water from doing the car they will stay looking good. I have full polychrome wheels on my MG ZR-Express & they were fitted in September 2009. I have polished a couple of times but really only to remove water stains & a few tar spots - they still look as new - I am often told this!

I used autoglym wheel seal on mine before the winter since I had it in the cupboard, but they actually look slightly yellowed although no brake dust build up.

Whats a good cleaner and treatment for when I remove my wheels and store them for the summer? I have autoglym wheel cleaner and autoglym wheel seal or could just wax them after washing?

If they are standard alloys as in not polished, split-rim, annadised etc then you can use Autoglym Acid wheel cleaner but use on cold wheels, wet first and only leave to soak for around 2 minutes then agitate with a non abrasive pad or microfibre cloth. Polish with any decent wheel polish (Autosol) though Autoglym Super Resin Polish is very good then use a product like Rim-Wax.

Autoglym do a non acid wheel cleaner too that you can use on other wheels including chrome - it is blue.

Thanks Valeter, they're the style 4 so standard wheel finish, I'll checkout which AG wheel cleaner it is but that'll do it, and have plenty of SRP so will use that to bring back the finish, i'll look into rim wax, might bin the AG wheel seal.

If you buy it in Halfords it will be the 375ml with a trigger spray & will have an orange label. The blue (non acid) version is called "Custom Wheel Cleaner". Retail names are different to trade & I can't remember the acid version name as the trade version is sold neat so I dilute to taste so to speak.
You can also use the acid cleaner to remove limescale from expansion tanks etc.

Wheel seal products need to be applied to totally clean wheels & preferably off the car.

I may bring some bits to the September meet event!

Its a trigger spray so probably acid, They were brand new when the seal was applied but I only washed first.

By September I'll be thinking about removing my diamond cut 5's and putting the 4's back on so will be needing to clean the diamond cuts!
