Airbags..

Interesting.. I know the new jags have this system, but it would be not be practical for 4x4s as they are so much higher up....

I am impressed with the car airbags safety system for the occupants of the Evoque... But i am intrigued what happens when you have rear collision. The airbags do not get activated, which I reckon should. In a rear collision, the head moves backwards onto the headrest, then moves forwards... Wouldn't it save a whiplash, if airbags were deployed at this moment... Just curious, as the number of whiplash injuries as gone up and I do not want to have one...
Stopping at the lights, I am constantly looking in my rear view mirror for the car comimg up behind, incase I need to brace myself for the inevitable...

And, this is a thought coming from one very careful ex-BMW owner.

By the time the head moves forwards the forward airbags will likely have already started deflating, they are only inflated for a fraction of a second.

As i understand, the headrests function is to protect from whiplash injuries caused by rear end collisions, but they provide a "marginal" level of protection in the Evoque according to the euroncap test. There was also problem with not enough pressure in the airbags:

This I think is a Important factor especially when,'Whiplash injury claims cost insurers more than £2 billion last year, adding around £90 to the cost of a typical car insurance policy.'

I think that LR should take whiplash issue seriously, especially, as it's a British marquee ... And as a benchmark for other brands..
I though I would be safer in a larger car when I bought it...
