After Sales Fog Light Fitment.

Some of you read about my disappointment with the dealership TP Topping and many were appalled by the way I was treated.

Just Last week I had the fogs fitted. Total cost:
£120 for pair of Brand New Lights off ebay.
£96 for fitment of lights into bumper by LandRover repair centre Dunmurry.
£90 for wiring up as DRL's With switch overide. Carried out by Lisburn Car Electrics.

Well impressed. Land Rover UK and Dealership were quoting me over £1200 plus also stating that the Bumper would have to be changed as my car didn't come with fogs. What Rubbish! For those of you unlucky enough to not have the Fogs fitted please be advised that all bumpers will allow the fitment of Fogs. You don't even have to buy new Upper and Lower plastic grills as the ones on the dummy terminal fit just fine.

Photo to follow. Happy Now though still would have liked the Full Electric seating and Power folding mirrors but can live without them.

Thank you.

I eventually got my day in the Newspaper but wasn't written in a way that damned the Dealership. They still do not accept responsibility for making a cock-up on my order. Still, I have nothing more to do with them.

As these are fog lights you might fall foul of the law if you have them on as DRL's. Fog lights should not be used unless visibility is less than 100m. Wouldnt want you to pick up an unnecessary fine Crying

Thanks for your concern. I had a word with my neighbour who is head of Traffic Policing and apparently as the fogs have been dimmed down they can be classed as DRL's.. Took the car to someone I know who works at Northern Ireland MOT Vehicle licensing etc and he would pass the car. In Northern Ireland we have a different system to mainland carrying out MOT's.

Fogs can be turned on/off separately to Autolamps lighting up.
Thanks

Thats good news. I think they would look pretty good as DRL's

They are either fogs or DRL's they cannot possibly be both. The bulbs are marked with a certain letter if they are fogs (which i cannot remember of the top of my head) they will always remain fogs even if dimmed a bit.

Good luck with it, you will probably find a lot of people still flash you for being inconsiderate and blinding them in the name of vanity.

(you may very well be a lovely person but a lot of people really do not like people who drive around with fogs on all the time, especially in conditions like tonight up here, raining heavy, wet roads but no fog at all. Loads of clowns driving round with foglights on reflecting off the wet road dazzling other road users)

Misuse of foglights and mispaced reg plates should result in immediate confiscation and crushing of offending vehicles in my opinion.

td4 Pure manual in orkney grey, auto wipers/lights, front fogs, spare wheel. carmats4u mats, travall dog guard. Collected 30/03/12.

Good luck with it, you will probably find a lot of people drive past thinking you are a "foglight wonker".

I can confirm they are DRL's and not Fogs. Look! I'm no Mechanic or Electrician just a Humble IT Specialist who repairs Servers/PC's/Laptops and Networks. So If the qualified vehicle electrician and also someone who works for DVLNI MOT Centre tells me the lights are LED and can be used as DRL's then that's good enough for me. These lights are not powerful enough to be bouncing light off the roads when the roads are wet. I have certainly never been one for driving with my fogs on with other cars I have owned.
Your opinion of having vehicles crushed for the sake of offending vehicles as you put it is a little OTT. Spot fines I am in agreement with.
Come over to Northern Ireland and see how many cars drive around without lights in appalling weather. Personally, I'd rather be seen on the roads here than be one of those who causes accidents through not having lights on.

There is a document here: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/...tents/made which may give a better understanding of what is and what isn't legal.

RE: After Sales Fog Light Fitment.

I know what is and what isnt legal, if the bulbs are marked with the fog light marking as per eu approval then they are fog lights.

They would be an invitiation to me to at least stop and have words with you, breathalise you, check for other vehicle defects and document offences or give you a nice fixed penalty notice, If you disagreed you could always argue it out in court and loose.

This is nothing personal against you, I have just heard the "They are not fog lights officer, they are driving lamps/ running lights/ etc etc" hundreds of times, and each of those hundreds of times the person making these claims was wrong.
