RE: Fastest convicted drivers in the UK 2013
Being old and probably past it, I'm on the Parish Council and, concerned with speeding through the village, we had a speed monitor installed to monitor speeds over 24 hours. The results showed one driver driving through the village - 30 limit - at 85 mph at 05:15 in the morning; clearly insane but the average figures showed no more than a mild speeding problem, not enough to build a case for a speed camera which are expensive to install and maintain.
I have no issue with 30 and 40 limits that are adhered to, I think the 20 limits in swathes of London and elsewhere are a pain, except perhaps at school times. On motorways, in the dry, the limit should be 80 mph reducing to 70 or 60 in the wet, like it is in France and Germany (where there are limits, which is 2/3 of the road network now and growing).
