Sill reinforcing bars- are they necessary?

We have just upgraded my wife's car to a 2018 Dynamic which has come fitted with side steps which are more of a hindrance than a help so decided to remove them. BUT when they are fitted the instructions require the removal of the sill reinforcing bars. Are they important or can the car run safely without them?

if they must be fitted then can anyone provide the part number please?
