Sorry to change subject, but is the build quality really that bad? Driving a VW Tiguan at present and hoped to 'upgrade' to the Evoque!

RE: 13 reg

Before I became a sole trader i was a long distance coach driver then drove for the local Arriva Bus Co for 3 years. I often never really liked going to work on the 13th for some reason & on Sunday the 13th Feb 2000 this was for very good reason:-
Each journey you drive has a number & this particular one was 2713 (From Maidstone - Chatham, Kent) there were 3 passengers on board & one had their birthday on the 13th. All journeys have Fare Stages so you can keep on time (supposedly) & a time is given when you should be there & in the case in the next sentence I was at a certain fare stage at 1.12PM (13.12).
I was then involved in an accident (that was proved non fault of mine) just around the corner @ 13.13Hrs. The accident was a motorcyclist who decided to overtake 3 vehicles on a pedestrian crossing where the road narrowed due to a school on both sides of the road, he was accelerating & failed to notice that I was driving a bus towards him then he slammed his brakes on (later found no pads so metal on metal) then aquaplaned along the road surface right underneath my cab = air ambulance was called & he died in it from multiple crush injuries so not a good 13th for me & the worst 13th for him!

This is a forum, when something goes wrong or doesn't feel right, members tend to express their frustration.

There have been problems, but in reality, it must be a very low percentage.

There are plenty of us who are happy with the Evoque.

Probably the best thing you can do is to drive several versions and door combinations, some members on here have sold their Evoques, because in the end the car did not fulfill their original requirements, that's not a fault of the car so much as a poor choice in the first place.

Mine has covered just over 15K miles and the list is.

All centre console plastics creak and going round corners the thing sounds like its loose.
Rattles from rear load area NEVER been fixed
Wind noise from closed drivers wind (whistle at >65mph)
Seat belts rattle against the b pillar plastics
Drivers seat-belt doesnt recoil (common fault they say).
Rear plastic are all movable with not much force, rear speakers rattle as a result.
Drivers seat squeaks and creaks

There's more but its getting boring now.

I think you would be unhappy as it wouldnt be an improvement against your VW, I had a CR-V until recently and although the styling doesnt compare, it was better built and got a steady 39mpg.

I hate my Evoque, I am stuck with it but I hate it, the whole experience has been a let down from a dealer network
who don't give a rats a$$ to an owner community who are blind to the faults of both the car and the dealers (some company on here accepted).

On a drive back from Brussels recently , taking my time as a test, best I could get was 30.7mpg. I returned in my wife' E350 3L merc and it trounced it with an average 47.5.

I know its a 4x4 and I know its not a fair comparison but they sell this car with a promise of brilliant economy.

Mine is an early model so you can expect some revisions but for 44K I don't expect to prefer driving a 22K honda !

Basically its a Volvo XC60/Freelander/Modeo lego kit (dealers words, not mine) with an unjustified premium price tag.

As soon as I can I will ditch it and return to the Germans.

Cheers

Bob

RE: 13 reg

LRs Build quality has been well documented over the past 20yrs. No it's not all that bad, people with problems shout louder than those without.

9 months with my Evoque and 100% happy, no major problems. This is my fourth LR and looking at a 5th wouldn't drive anything else. The Germans can keep there cars.

@The Valeter- The last part of my shift tonight is on the number 13, right through the witching hour

Thanks for post. I understand people vent frustrations regarding what their hopes are about a car and when reality is different, hence why I asked.

I've tried one demonstrator and was impressed but living with a car is different from a test drive.

Thanks for your honesty. As above I'm aware some will be happier than others in any purchase. I can live with fuel economy but as you rightly highlited, if spending 40k I want it to be the best that money can buy.

From viewing the forum it seems stereotypical of car dealerships; all depending on who and where you buy influencing your owner experience.

RE: 13 reg

The build quality is fine, it could always be better but really saving weight was an objective so there are going to be some panels that feel cheap, unfortunately to get any mpg advantage of this weight saving it has to be driven carefully. I've never owned a VW but the ones I have seen have always been pretty average, I remember a brand new Polo where the door handle came off in my hand as I tried to get out!
