(USA) How do you tune the radio to HD2 or HD3 ? - katscan - 11-07-2014 05:09pm

I can only get the HD1 radio channels and have no idea how to switch to the different mode to get HD2 or HD3..

Anyone figure this out yet?

Trying to understand the HD comment also. I have "HD Radio" that seems to operate automatically. e.g when it receives an HD station (FM or AM) it automatically comes up with a HD Radio symbol. Don't see a separate HD radio section. Unless you mean SAT (satellite radio) ?

Ya I think HD (Hi definition) radio is only a US thing.

Hi, Thanks for replying.. So apparently, there are two HD "bands" possible. For example, 107.9 in Boston broadcasts in HD and its the typical pop stuff. However, 107.9 on HD band 2, broadcasts a completely different station with completely different music.

On my current Audi A6 (loaner), I can select 107.9 HD, and then also select to tune to HD2 on 107.9.. Why would a radio station choose to broadcast only on HD2 ? I have no idea.. presumably the frequency rights are less expensive?

I am assuming that HD1 and HD2 are a basic function on all HD radios, much like AM and FM. But I could be wrong and our Evoques can only tune HD1 ?

This page would seem to indicate HD2 and HD3 are suppported by the Evoque's HD radio.. hmmm...

I'm in NJ and there is a setting to enable HD, but I don't see any new stations... although once I enable it, the tower image changes to HD image in the screen, although I don't see any new stations.. Last station is still 107.5....

Anyone more familiar with this? I'm also curious as well...

Ok.. I figured it out.. HD2 and HD3 can be tuned after you tune to the initial HD station by using the seek buttons.. These switch between the HD multicast stations.

Basically, if you want to tune to 107.9 HD3, then you would follow the following procedure:
Tune to FM 107.9
Wait for the tuner to recognize and switch to HD (tuner will show 107.9 HD)
Then use the seek up button to switch to 107.9 HD2, and again to tune to 107.9 HD3. This assumes that there are multicast stations on the HD2 and 3 bands broadcasting on 107.9..

hmmm.... will try that.... when I turn on HD, after I hit 107.5, it goes back to 88.3

DAB seems to be a whole world simpler, switch on DAB and listen!
