Lost remote key - Senna - 11-02-2014 03:05pm

Wifey lost her remote (probably somewhere in the house in one of her bags/coats/jackets).

Need to get a replacement just in case I lose mine and get stuck!

Rang our local LR dealer and explained that I have now spent close to £200k with them over the last few years and would they kindly give me a 'friendly' price for a replacement. Their so called friendly price was £198 inc programming (which would be charged at £50 something pounds @ 30 minutes).

I note on fleabay that their are several new remote keys available for a lot less (some at £45). Add £50 or so for programming and that brings it down to half price.

My question is, there seems to be two types out there for sale that whilst look identical operate on different frequencies. One operates at 315 mhz while the other 434 mhz.

Would either work on my 2013 Evoque or do I need a specific one?

Thanks in advance

The problem with buying a replacement from an ebay seller is just who are you giving your car's intimate details to? You don't know and they could very easily clone your fob, they now have your address since they needed it to post you the "cheap" one and oops suddenly you no longer have an Evoque sat on your drive.............. Insurance would not be happy as you freely gave the car's details away and possibly wouldn't pay out. I think you need to bite the £198 bullet and use the more secure system provided by the dealership to be safe.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the reply.

I'm a bit too long in the tooth to buy a key from an ebayer directly. Will just get my sister to buy it.
She lives 5 miles from me and has an Audi on her drive. Good luck trying to drive that away with an Evoque key lol

remember replacement key fobs do not come with key blades these are sold seperately.

I think I'd be searching for the second key a bit more! Unless you know it's not in the house or lost... then search.

Trouble is you don't know what you're getting off e-bay, and a dealer might not reprogram it for you, or will charge a premium anyway. I've heard of much higher prices than £198 + Programming for other cars.

Should be covered if you have accidental cover for items

IIRC a replacement fob for a small FIAT bought from a dealer and reprogrammed to the car by them will set you back in the region of £1000.

I've just had a new spare key programmed, £24 at my local dealers.
