Massive Judder - Daglass - 04-12-2013 10:25pm

Hi guys, haven't posted in a while.
Been enjoying the evoque a lot but in the last two days I've experienced a very unnerving judder when I hit the start button.
The whole car shakes like crazy and the engine revs of its own accord.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I took it to the dealer but as expected it started normally and behaved itself throughout.

Certainly not experiencing this, but how often do you get it? Maybe need to leave with a dealer overnight if its only when cold.

Got it on Saturday and Monday.
On Saturday I'd travelled 20 miles, got out to post a letter and got the judder when starting off again.
On Monday I travelled 6 miles from work, had a quick lunch (15 minutes) and got the judder again.

I've also had a very high pitched whine on the odd cold morning.

I have had my car just over two years now and this has happend twice with me, the first time was just after I got it. The second time was two weeks ago. I started the car up then turned off quickly. Its like the pistons are out of tune the whole car shakes.

High pitch whine maybe normal, see thread on this electrical noise,

so sounds like its when warmed up, has it been very damp recently, as quite a few have had juddery starts when cold and damp especially the coupe's with added water inlets in the bonnet (or scoops), but normally this is when starting from cold.

It's garaged at night and sits in a covered area during the day.
Ill monitor it for a bit and if it happens again I'll get on to LR directly.

No Phil that happens when the coupe is left out in the rain, normally the first thing in the morning. The judder is not the same thing.i have both these problems but still love my Evoque and still to see a better looking car in that class.

I've had the cold starting judder a couple of times myself, but always when damp and cold, but it always starts and stays running and goes quiet after a few seconds, can you describe the other a bjt more then? If you say pistons out of tune and stops, sounds like the engine sychronisation is being detected wrong on start-up, but the OP says it revs? Which cant be this.

Two possiblities - EPB is sticking on occassionally for the judder and for the scream dampness on one of the Vee belts causing it to slip.

EPB's have been known to corrode on on overnight if it is humid. Also if roads have been salted can cause an issue.

Hi Tim, I get the impression the car is not moving when the Judder occurs as the OP says it's when pressing the the Start Button so don't think it'll be EPB related, I would assume from what he says its a Judder from the engine starting.
