GAP Insurance - Nantmoel - 19-02-2013 11:09pm

Hi

Has anyone had any experience of GAP insurance? Yes its that time where the stealer tries and sells you everything they can make a penny on! I can see where Alloy and Tyre insurance could be of use - any thoughts?

I was offered it by the dealer yesterday for £595 for return to invoice Gap. Pretty sure you can get it cheaper though.

Profit margins I guess. I believe if you shop around on internet you can get it for around £150+.

I've not used them myself but ALA seem to be about the cheapest. Paint protection, Gap, smart repair, alloy insurance are all there to make the dealer and salesmen big profits, there markup is ridiculous.I buy plenty of cars but never the add ons.Paint protection can be done by a local detailer much better for less, gap as already covered can be had for a fraction of the dealers price, alloy/tyre insurance has too many restrictions/limits for my liking.

I would snatch their hand off my dealer has quoted £759 for back to invoice gap, and when I said I could get it much cheaper, the salesman said he doubted it and has never had anyone question the amount?

I have never had to claim on gap insurance but if it's an insurance type policy are they like normal car insurance who try to wriggle out of paying ?
Has anyone any experience of using gap companies.

Waste of money, IMHO.

On a purchase price of £40k ALA quote under £200 for return to invoice cover, and just over £200 for replacement car cover.£400/£500/£600 quote from the dealer is ridiculous. With this cover in place you need to inform them of any claim, as I believe they negotiate with your insurer if your vehicle is written off, obviously if they have to make up the difference they want to make sure the insurance co pay out as much as possible.Like I said earlier I've never used GAP insurance but if I did Id much rather pay £200 than £700.
