So can anyone recommend a "high street" source for such an oil - I guess I best be prepared for the day when I need to use some... (eBay did pop up when I did a search, but I'm even less sure I'd be wanting to do that!) (eBay did pop up when I did a search, but I'm even less sure I'd be wanting to do that!) This was my exact dilemma, having not been able to find any C1, i thought the best place would be the dealer, only to get offered a C2 oil ! lol RE: Top Up Oil - CSJ - 24-02-2012 11:44am Have had the same problem, I tried eBay but ended up sending in back and getting a refund as seal was broken. Does anyone who is technically minded have a view on what we should use? RE: Top Up Oil - Pedalpower - 24-02-2012 02:00pm I have sent Nick@Landrover a pm asking him/her to please read this thread and advise everyone. At present we are stuck being not able to actually obtain the correct oil, and even the dealers are using a lower spec !. Hopefully Nick will help out. Does he/She often respond ? RE: Top Up Oil - Claud - 24-02-2012 02:20pm Opie oils stock four C1 types of oil, with the Shell Helix being the most recognisable high street brand: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-790-acea-c1.aspx The Shell C1 spec oil is also on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shell-Helix-Diesel-Ultra-Engine/dp/B005X8TLQI I guess someone will track down a good low cost source and share it with us that betters the above. I am of the pragmatic view if you having nothing else then topping up small amounts of C2 spec oil like Mobil 1 is ok in an emergency, but I guess most of us would like to have the correct spec factory fill item to hand. Seems like carrying a C1 spec litre of oil in the boot would be a good idea as it seems rarer then rocking horse pooh. RE: Top Up Oil - BobM - 24-02-2012 02:29pm Try Here:- http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-790-acea-c1.aspx or here:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Castrol-Edge-Professional-Oil-C1-5W-30-1L-FREE-P-P-/140698625429?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item20c24aa595 RE: Top Up Oil - LDT - 24-02-2012 02:36pm I would be nervous about buying anything as important as the correct oil from eBay. A scam could have disasterous results for a car. I'd personally prefer to pay extra and have peace of mind. Fair point but if you use the Opieoils link they are well respected suppliers, so much so that if you use the Castrol website they actually direct you to the Opieoils website to purchase. Clearly a newish oil spec and would imagine it will become more readily available as time goes on. Another one to consider:- http://www.carlube.co.uk/index.cfm?product=139&product_title=5w30 Carlube Triple R Fully Synthetic C1 RE: Top Up Oil - Claud - 24-02-2012 08:25pm I popped into Guava my servicing dealer today to ask for their advice on the DPF engined Land Rovers and specification for top oil. Back came the prompt reply, you have to use the low sops oil and promptly plonked and the counter a litre bottle of Castrol Edge Professional Oil C1 5W-30 So much for Guy Salmon supplying Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 (C2/C3) on the handover, the wrong spec I confirmed with Guava they only use the Castrol Edge Professional Oil C1 5W-30 oil on all services for the DPF cars, so my wife's SD4 had the right stuff put in it when they serviced it in December To top it all the sold me a litre for a fraction over £10 which is the best price I have seen so far! This is now sitting in my boot should I need it between services. RE: Top Up Oil - XFullFatTim - 24-02-2012 09:24pm Not only are Opie Oils well respected, they also sell a lot of oils to members of Martin's other forums. IIRC they are / were a sponsor on RRSport and Disco3 forums |
