I am mystified by how these tuning boxes increase top speed?

top speed is related to revs/gearing not power.

same way a remap does by altering the rev limit

The tuning performance is designed for a torque and maximum output boost in the lower and middle speed ranges.

Nevertheless, maximum speed is increased in practically all vehicles, since the torque is also increased here.

The increase amounts to approx. 3-10 mph depending on the vehicle.

I'm most concerned about oomph between about 40 and 70 for overtaking

Hi cutter, good thread. Have you informed your insurance and did it make a large increase in the premium by having the box? I am thinking of ordering one.
Cheers.

Do you really HAVE to tell the insurance?

Well if you want to be certain they wont refuse to pay out if you pin your car.

They will always cover you 3rd party, but if they find out your car is modified they are highley likely to refuse to pay up for your losses. So if you want to risk loosing £30000 to £50000 then go ahead.

No increase with Aviva.

Many insurance companies do not charge extra for vehicles fitted with an economy / tuning engine chip while others charge a small fee; if you are unSure it's best to check with your insurance company before installation. Insurance companies that should allow up to 25% increases include: the AA, Elephant, Aviva and Admiral; however you may find you get a much better deal from the likes of a specialist such as Adrian Flux or Chris Knott when it comes time to renewal.

Basically the torque before the unit fitted is about 310 Ib/ft of torque and with the unit fitted this should increase to about 385/390 Ib/ft torque.

Hi Cutter, at what mileage did you install the box in your Evoque?

I only ask as I had a SD4 Evoque previously and it suffered badly from take off lag and within the next 2 weeks my wife's SD4 Evoque arrives and from what you have written this TDI product sounds like a must have....but, I want to install it at the right mileage and perhaps not at the start when she is running it in!

Many thanks

I installed the unit at just pass 1k miles.

Like you i had the rolling throttle/lag under 2k revs, and this unit has made the acceleration so much smoother than the harsh jerky, flat spot i use to remember..when pulling away from roundabouts.
