RE: how much deposit to put for ordering

in belgium nobody pays a deposit on a new car,
you order the car, pay nothing;
on d-day: money on the table, then delivery.
No money, no car, but never a deposit.

RE: how much deposit to put for ordering

I suspect that what you are being asked to pay isn't a deposit but a charge that the dealer should be absorbing internally - a delivery charge to get the car between dealerships. Basically you are having to pay for them to get a car into stock that you possibly won't want when you see it and that is unfair pressure for you to buy. It may also be that your dealer has had to "swop" a car that he could sell more easily than the version you are looking for and he wants to cover himself for that loss.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
