USB socket to charge other devices

The manual indicates that the USB socket should only be used for Audio devices. But do people know if it is OK to use the USB socket to charge a Blackberry or Kindle or indeed any other device that will charge off a PC USB.

RE: USB socket to charge other devices

Should be fine up-to 500mA, if it's USB that's what it supports by specification.

Yes, it's a standard 5v 1a output. Same as any pc port.

RE: USB socket to charge other devices

Thanks.

Asked the dealer yesterday and they did not have a clue! They also did not have an opinion on plugging an iPad in the USB while a iPhone is in the iP?? socket. Guess they are just being cautious as LR have not tested every device!

Service manager said some mobiles cause a fuse to fail on other models so expected that this would be the worst that would happen.

You can't use an iPhone charger on the iPad as it requires more juice, so I'm guessing it will not charge through the usb ports. You should be fine with the rest.

RE: USB socket to charge other devices

You can get an adapter that will allow you to plug your ipad into the cigarette lighter or the powerpoint as that is how I keep my iPad charged in my 1996 Defender when I'm using it in the car, haven't tried it in the Evoque yet as I haven't so far needed to use my ipad in it. basically what the adapter is is a power point plug with a USB socket in the end - IIRC I got it from the local Apple Store - try using a search engine to search for iPad incar charger. Here's what I have http://www.griffintechnology.com/ipad/in-car I also have one from halfords I think that has a USB socket on the end rather than having a coiled cable so you can use the iPad cable instead

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
