RE: Recommended Snow Chains

Hi, thanks for the responses. I do have the manual and have read this section although what i find as contradictory is that Thule markets the THULE K-SUMMIT XXL K66 as fitting the 235/55/19 or 245/45/20 on the RR Evoque

Try http://www.autosock.co.uk
Certified for France now. Copy of authorisation on web site. From memory they did a size to fit 20 " I will be getting on my Dynamic SD4 Auto. Bought a set for my Skoda VRS as Skoda quoted " no fit " for chains. Worked great when used in anger last week!

I've used the autosock on a Golf in combination with standard tyres. They are just brilliant. It takes no time to mount them, yet you do get a bit dirty. We rented a place on top of a hill. The guys with chains didn't have a smooth ride like I had. Do check if you are allowed to use them in the country where you are going.

Good find. It does appear Thule thinks they'll do the job. If anyone has success with chains for 20", let's hear about it.

"Thule K-Summit XXL snow chains (pair) no. K-Summit 66
Tyre: 245/45-20
Suitable with Bridgestone Duravis tyres
Ideal where there’s minimal distance between the wheel and the wheel arch
No chain inside the wheel
Always quick and easy to fit and remove
More...
The K-Summit is what we usually call a “Ladder track chain”, because a ladder of chain is placed around the face of the tyre, braced off a mechanism which is fixed onto one wheel bolt. There’s no chain inside the wheel.
These chains are particularly suitable where there’s minimal distance between the wheel and the wheel arch, a typical feature of many rear wheel drives with large alloys. If you can't get your forearms into this gap then the K-Summit is your only Thule option.

They’re also easy to fit and remove and, because you don't have to put your forearms over the tyre, you shouldn't get dirty slush on your forearms or clothes."

RE: Recommended Snow Chains

I agree with the comments relating to Snowsocks. Got a pair on my 520D, never let me down, but a bugger to fit with low profile tyres. Am hoping that I can throw them away on 24th Feb, if it arrives on time. Fingers crossed.

Arrived 24th February. Dynamic 5 dr SD4, manual ,Firenze with Verve interior, 20" Sparkle

RE: Recommended Snow Chains

I when to my Thule distributor and they fitted a K56 summit on after customizing it by loosening two segments. It turns out both K56 or K66 fit depending on your tyre and rim size. I went with k56 as its about 15% less than k66

RE: Recommended Snow Chains

Snow chains in Melbourne Shocked are you needing them for sand ?

At work we use snow socks for are vans. I used them for the first time last winter, I was very impressed.
For a 2WD vehicle stuck on snow or ice they work very well. But you most remove them (2min job) once back on tarmac & not drive over 20mph.

RE: Recommended Snow Chains

The snow sock was one of the new accessories I saw on a leaflet at the dealer's yesterday.
