Evoque Rear Brakes: Wore out at 25,000 KM???!!!

Hi all,

I have been enjoying the Evoque for the past year and a bit and I am puzzled by the rear brake wear. When I switched over to winter tires, my mechanic said that the rears had less than 20% left (I'm guessing less than 5mm), while the fronts are at 80%.

The rear brakes squeak now every time I brake (had this problem since the beginning ) but my car doesn't fall under the recall as it was built exactly one month later.

I'm wondering what is causing this immense inbalance in brake wear and if it is normal. Would I have any recourse with JLR North American in maybe compensating me for the rear brake service as I have never had a car that has needed new pads at 25,000 or even 60,000 KM.

I am going to have it inspected tomorrow at the dealer along with the misfire recall.

Thanks.

Surely if they've squeaked since new, you probably should have got it looked at sooner as they must have been binding, hence wearing out. Hope they can find something causing them to bind when they look at it, or I guess you'll be paying for new Pads.

I thought the squeaking was normal, and the test drives I had also had squeaks. It seemed like a non issue as the brake dust was pretty even and there was not any sort of diminished braking performance.

If all else fails I'll get them replaced at my mechanic for about $200 USD and escalate further with JLR North America.

Get your JLR dealer to check the parking brake is releasing fully, that can cause heavy pad wear and squeaking if it doesn't fully disengage

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

I had the same problem , dealer said it happened sometimes and I could cure it by paying them a large amount of money to replace the pads and discs.

Took it to an independent brake specialist, not just a local Kwik Fit, and they told me the brakes had been binding since new and unevenly looking at the wear pattern on the disks. He replaced the pads and adjusted the release mechanism so now as if by magic the problem has gone and even my fuel economy is better

Cheers

I have a feeling LR is going to deny all responsibility and say that it's part of the design and normal operation of the vehicle today and try to sell me new pads and rotors. I will also be taking it to my mechanic tomorrow or early next week. The problem is that I will be out of the country for a month starting Wednesday.

RE: Evoque Rear Brakes: Wore out at 25,000 KM???!!!

The story I got was that the electronic handbrake was to blame, design fault if thats the case.

I have no confidence in either the supplying dealer or Pentland, who now own the supplying dealer, and the only other dealer within reasonable
distance, Stirling, were not all that bothered because they did not supply the car.

Our 2 year old and 6 year Old Mercs have been absolutely faultless so guess where my money goes next time.

Cheers
