RE: Bad Paint Job or Accident Repair?

Caroline, you are right to be aggrieved. I think you should tell the dealer before the LR person arrives on Monday that you are minded to reject the car. The fact there's a problem left and right sounds like there has been a problem in the factory which was only discovered late in the day - at the end of production instead of inspection of the painted body shell when it should have been. Someone was clearly asleep on the job.

Worse is that the rectification has been badly done, now has to be re-done and will sour your experience of owning the car. You should therefore reject the car or, if you accept a new paint job, require compensation for both LR and the dealer's incompetence in building and preparing the car to the proper standard. A courtesy car goes without saying plus a goodwill payment in cash or free servicing. I would also require the car to be trailered to wherever it goes rather being used to run up miles. Make a note of the mileage when you take the car in and agree how much the car will be used.

Time for you to be tough and not let them fob you off with excuses. From your previous posts, I don't think you will have a problem. Good luck.

Mark

RE: Bad Paint Job or Accident Repair?

Thanks Mark, I took your advice. I e-mailed my dealer yesterday to reject the car. They called me first thing this morning and guess what...................... they have accepted it with no quibble, and I will get a new car! Very HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery Happy I thought I would have had to fight my case, but clearly not, and they are not even interested in LR looking at the car this morning now. My dealers have always been very good up until this problem and now they have come up trumps! I feel so much happier now, I will get my perfect car eventually Very Happy I don't know if I will be able to keep my current car until the new one arrives as they haven't gone through all the details yet, I should no more this afternoon when the sales manager calls me. Not sure what the waiting times are now for new cars, I guess 3-4 months. I know my dealers get one of the biggest if not the biggest allocations in the country so fingers crossed I won't wait too long.

RE: Bad Paint Job or Accident Repair?

Good for you Caroline, it's good news they have agreed.

It will be interesting to see where they go from here. I can imagine there's a small number of production slots kept back for supply issues like this, so it would surprise me if you went right to the back of the queue.

Since they have your money, they should at least put you in something in the meantime even if they want the current car back now. I expect they will rework the paint properly and resell as a low mileage secondhand car, certain to be an easy sale to someone looking to avoid the lead time.

Question for you though is whether you are minded to change the specification in the light of having had the car for a few weeks - doesn't sound like you'll be wanting the "posh" carpet mats!

RE: Bad Paint Job or Accident Repair?

sounds like dealer has done well here, they should give you a courtesy car in mean time, as the original will have to be returned to factory so they can find out why it got through inspection process (this was process at peugeot when i worked there many moons ago).

Apparently the next order call is at the end of this week and he says my new order will go in then, he hasn't indicated build dates yet. Not sure if I have jumped the queue or not.

On my e-mail I put that I assumed I could keep the current car until the new one arrives and they haven't said I can't so far, but I would understand them wanting it back now because it would depreciate more the longer I keep it, and I won't argue with that. I'm sure they will give me a car of some description on loan, but I am not too worried about a loan car because I have 3 of my dad's cars here I can use as he lives in Dubai in the winter!

As for changing spec............ forget the posh mats...........the only things I had wished I had added first time round was electric folding mirrors & spare wheel, maybe I an add them.

I don't think they will return the car to the factory, they will get it done at their bodyshop at another branch because that is where they were going to re-spray it under warranty. I still don't believe it came out of the factory like this. It has definitely been bodged after production and I think they know that. The week I picked the car up I saw a white Evoque partly covered in brown paper at the back of the dealership compound and I joked to my family that I hope that isn't my car! Maybe I was right, but when I mentioned this to my dealer what I had seen they didn't know what I was talking about!!!!!!!
Oh well I don't care now I'm getting a new one.

I think they are both worth having, even if it is a bit cheeky to ask for them. You might even get your salesman to throw them in as a goodwill gesture, especially if they were then off the hook with the loaner. You need to decide once and for all pronto so as not to hold up the re-order process and give them an excuse as to why your car is delayed.

Good for you this is turning out better than you might have expected, so far at least.

RE: Bad Paint Job or Accident Repair?

I have had my car just over a week , I put it in to have the A glaze put on and they pointed out all the overspray on the back window. On closer inspection it is all over the rear light and boot seal also.

Apparently this was done at the factory,LR customer services are carefully considering where we go from here I will have news tomorrow.

I was not looking to pay 44k for a new damaged badly repaired Evoque,It certainly has taken the shine off the whole experience.

Hmmm ........... sounds very similar to mine. Sounds like it has been re-sprayed if paint is on the rubber seal as the cars are originally sprayed without rubber seals on! I am convinced that mine was damaged/repaired/re-sprayed although no-one will admit it. Like you I was not happy paying good money for a damaged repaired car so as said earlier on this thread I rejected the car after a month and my dealers have been very good and have ordered me a new one, and I have been able to keep the car until the new one arrives hopefully in April! Keep us all informed as to what they are prepared to do to sort yours out?

RE: Bad Paint Job or Accident Repair?

This appears to be quite common. The question is wether you can feel o.k about the car long term. Lots of serious things do happen as others have pointed out. I once had a new ford escort which it transpired when i came to part ex, had been dropped off the transporter. One front wheel was 2" further back than the other! legal minefield and if you have any doubts I would reject it early while you still can. (and check absolutely everything before driving away) It is also worth making sure that the car is in good day light when you inspect it because stealers tend to have them ready to collect in places where the light is not so good.
