Officially yes.... but AutoCar got 30mpg for the Auto (in their tests) .... hence my concern

So what are the realistic fuel consumption figures?

I'm getting deja vu on this thread. Smile
30mpg magazine test is ranting the nuts off it and performance tests inlcluded.

Basically, nobody knows as it's not an actual vehicle in use yet.
You've only got the combined figures from the test to compare to other vehicles. Unless you drive like a loon I'd expect to see 40mpg plus from the higher powered 4x4 diesel, although LR quote 50mpg.

As a comparison a 4x4 Yeti (similar size) with a 2.0l modern diesel engine giving similar power averages 42-44mpg in real world driving. In urban conditions it does 36mpg. You may occasionally touch 50mpg on a long run at sensible speeds. (ie, keeping it around 60 to 65mph)

Due to similar weight, power, engine size, large frontal area and being 4x4 it's not going to be far off that IMO. VW diesels are pretty good.

It's not going to be as bad as the magazine saying 30mpg suggests unless you are in traffic all of the time. And if you are do not buy the diesel as it'll have a Diesel Particulate Filter which will cause problems. You must run these at higher speeds occasionally to generate more heat and burn off the soot deposits.
But equally it's never going to be fantastic because any 4x4 with a tall body generates a lot of drag.

Current: '97 Camel Trophy Defender, Skoda Yeti, Skoda VRS, Morris Minor.
Previous: 08 RR Vogue SE, 06 Vogue, 07 Defender, 05 Defender and so on.....

I agree. Anyone expecting a mixed driving average of much above 40mpg in a 'tall' car that does 0 to 60 mph in less than 10 seconds, is likely to be disappointed.

BMW's fuel figure for my car is 47mpg. For mixed driving I achieve 38 mpg and my wife (who tends to hold each gear for a second or two longer), gets 35mpg.

IF I order an SD4 auto which LR quote 43mpg for, I won't expect better than an average of 35mpg.

Fox I appreciate what you said about the car being driven like a loon BUT by all accounts Autocar do the same tests /speeds for all their road tests and a FFRR TDV8 achieved 26mpg in these tests. Now if it had achieved 15-19mpg then the difference could be explained away as bonkers driving but for a FFRR to get 26mpg could suggest this is a real world figure.

High 30's low 40's is what I was hoping for - hopefully not unreasonably. As I say I just wish some other magazines had actually done some measurements to either corroborate or disprove the Autocar figures. Just having one set of figures (and bad ones at that) after all these "Road Tests" is not great.

SD4 Prestige Sport Auto 5 Door, Sumatra Black with Ambience interior, Magneride AD, 20" Style 6 Wheels, Panoramic Roof, Surround Cameras, Electric Tailgate, ADRVM.......& Heated Steering Wheel......Gorgeous

Confused

But you won't be driving it like a car magazine's road test, will you?

Roughly and in my experience:-

If you do mostly A road and legal speed motorway driving, take 10 to 15% off the manufacturer's combined figure.

If you do a complete mixture of including short journeys and city driving, take 20 to 25% off the manufacturer's combined figure.

Our new x3 quotes 50mpg. My 1st 1000 miles has averaged 41 mpg.

Did floor it on occasions tho

RE: Anyone tempted to cancel their order?

Auto Express video review (on Youtube) has 50mph driving up and down a runway (not clear if round in circles, or slowing down and speeding up at each end) for 15 mins giving them 30mpg in the petrol model, for what that's worth.
