I have always thought there was Lamborghini design language in the dramatic wedge line, flared guards, sloping roof, and extremely bold proportions of the Evoque.
The new Lambo looks like a large Evoque on steroids....and i like it very much indeed!!!
The Evoque design remains incredibly fresh, and the new Urus will only enhance the ongoing appeal of the more affordable Evoque.
Even after 3 days ownership, it's the best car I've ever driven - it really is as good as all the reviews.
But having said that, the best (family friendly) fun I've had in a car is still my day at Eastnor in the Defender.
And yes, I know that the Macan isn't as capable off-road as the Evoque, but I never do anything more than drive across a field and occasionally drive down farm tracks.

Evoque vs Q3

After recently buying our Evoque and a Q3 I thought I'd post a little review of the two:

The cars:

2016 Audi Q3 SLine Plus, 2.0tdi Quattro (150bhp) manual (bought brand new)
2014 Range Rover Evoque Pure 2.2 SD4 manual

(I'm not a fan of autos)

Equipment:

Being the top of the range the Q3 is better equipped. The best bits for me though are the LED 'All weather' headlights. These are superb like daylight at night, it also has the dynamic rear indicators that swoop when they operate.

In comparison the Evoques Halogen headlights look dim and for a prestige car, cheap.

It also has other nice things like Sat Nav and a powered rear tailgate. Incidentally like the Evoque it opens on the key but you can't shut it using the key, you have to press the button in the tailgate, you can however shut it using the interior switch if the ignition is on.

The ambient lighting is a nice touch in the Evoque and something that isn't even an option on the Q3.

The interior lights are very poor in the Q3, I didn't realise this and now wish I'd have opted for the Interior light LED upgrade pack. The Evoque has LED in the front and much better rear lighting.

The Audi MMI system is ok but has been problematic, an update has pretty much sorted it but its a smaller screen and all controlled from the MMI buttons. To me its a bit fiddly and counter intuitive to use. Also only at 80watts and 6 speakers its not the best sounding system, especially compared to the Evoques 380w Meridian system. The only downside with our Evoque is it doesn't have Satnav.

The Q3 has roof side bars as standard so only a roof rack is needed, whereas the Evoque needs side bars and the roof rack. This just seems another way to fleece customers of money by LR IMHO.

Interior:

Quality wise the Audi us without doubt better screwed together, the fit and finish overall is better I'd say with higher quality plastics throughout.

However the Evoque has a nicer, far more luxurious feeling interior, sumptuos leather seats (the Audi is Leather/Alcantara) and feels a far more special place to sit. Also the leather/stitching effect on the Evoques dash is a very nice touch. The thing for me that lets it down a bit is the finish used on the centre console and buttons, seems an old fashioned and cheap finish like something out of a Rover 45!

You are much higher up in the Q3 and the seats are definitely more supportive.

The engine in the Evoque is much quieter in the cabin than the Q3, even pushing it its quiet, the Q3 is much noisier. But Road noise is higher in the Evoque.

Interior Space and boot:

The Evoque has more interior space but this means it has a smaller boot than the Audi.

Engines:

This would probably be a fairer comparison with a 15my Evoque with an Ingenium engine but mine is an SD4 so I can only go by that.

The Evoques 2.2 SD4 engine is definitely quieter but it has quite a bit of Turbo Lag, its a bit quicker than the 150bhp 2.0tdi but not as much as you'd think, on paper they are very similar. If you opted for the 184bhp tdi Q3 thats a fair bit quicker.

Or if you want to spend £50k on a Q3 instead of a top range Evoque the the RSQ3 with 380bhp is an absolute monster.

The Q3 also uses AdBlue.

Driving:

The Q3 is definitely more of a drivers car, its more agile and theres less body roll, it also feels a much lighter car. That said it has an awful turning circle (feels more like a Defender in tight spaces because of this!) and the steering is incredibly light and doesn't give much feedback. The brakes feel sharper on the Evoque and do inspire more confidence. The gearbox is heavier to change on the Evoque and feels less precise, I have to say its very similar in feel to a mk7 Transit, but that said whilst precise feeling in the Q3 once its in gear theres a lot of slop from the gearstick.

Overall I actually prefer how the Evoque drives its a more relaxed long distance car.

Exterior:

Again the Audi seems to be better screwed together, the doors shut with a precise clunk and fit and finish is spot on. Paint quality on both cars is very good and both seem to resist stonechips well.

However the Evoque is a much prettier car. The Q3 looks frumpy in comparison, proportionally away from the Evoque the Q3 looks pretty nice but side by side the Q3 just looks fat.

Overall both are superb cars. The Q3 is a very well made car and it 'feels' like it'll last whereas if I'm honest I don't get that feeling with the Evoque, and reading the issues on here vs the ones on the Q3 forums thats probably not far from the truth.

And the press reviews of the Q3/X1/Evoque that puts the Evoque last overall is pretty fair imho.

But for a car that makes you feel 'special' and draws the most looks, the Evoque wins all day long, I can't stop looking at it and I love driving it far more than the Q3. To me as nice as it is the Q3 just feels like a posh VW (which it pretty much is) but the Evoque feeks like a proper prestige car.

Buying with your head the Audi Q3. Buying with your heart its the Evoque.

Heres our two cars side by side:

I came away very disappointed with the F Pace particularly when compared to my RR Evoque. Whilst undoubtedly a bigger car with more space and a bigger boot it did not have the quality feel of the RR Evoque and wasn't a particularly special inside. The biggest let downs for me though were the ride - it was hard, harsh and fidgety on most road services and the noise levels particularly the engine noise were obtrusive and not a particularly pleasant tone.
I guess JLR must be targeting it at a different market to the RR Evoque - the RR Evoque being the luxury car and the Jaguar F Pace being a sports car (on stilts).
Whilst at the event and by contrast I took the opportunity to drive the new Jaguar XF - now that was nice and what a Jaguar should be like to drive.

This latest ZF recall revolves around the possibility of the gearbox unexpectedly shifting into neutral, caused by an improper crimp used on the transmission's wiring harness. To resolve the problem, ZF has announced that it will roll out a software update to all of the half a million affected vehicles (in the USA). If you live in Europe - I guess it will GFY

The recall affects 2014 and 2015 models of the Chrysler 200, Fiat 500X, some Honda Pilot variants, the Jeep Cherokee and Renegade, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, V6 Acura TLX and Ram ProMaster city.

This particular transmission is used by numerous models and a plethora of automakers but the current recall only relates to vehicles from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

It remains to be seen if any other recalls could be on the horizon.

Interestingly, an identical issue with ZF's 8-speed automatic led FCA to recall over 1.1 million vehicles earlier this year (http://babyrr.com/forum/Thread-Nine-spee...x-recall). This fault is thought to have caused the death of actor Anton Yelchin.

NHTSA says 10 injuries have been reported as a result of transmission issues.

I'm seriously thinking about adding another RR to the stable, but this one needs to be one that I can thrash around 4wD in without worrying about anything. But not sure which model to start looking at. All I want absolutely the most reliable, something that can cover long distances in comfort, and not thinking anything too new with electronics to cause problems. Fuel economy is not an issue. Would love to hear anyone's thoughts, opinions and choices, thanks.
I should add I would love an original mk1 2 door, but they are so hard to find these days.

Evoque Vs Mercedes C Class (W205)

Picked up my new Mercedes C Class Estate 2015 Model, AMG Line BlueTec Premium Plus. Remembering this is a different type of car but not far off the same price level.

Thought I'd give a few comparisons to my 3 1/2 year old Evoque, which I still have of course!.

Merc : Diesel 2.1 Auto AMG Line
EVO : Diesel 2.2 Manual Dynamic Magneride

It's a new design for Merc so you expect improved tech and refinement over the very initial Evoque I have. But the MY16 Evoque really needs to be comparable.

Styling
Mercedes have improved their design with their new range, and it's a slick car, hasn't the uniqueness of the Evoque though.

Opening Panoramic roof with Blinds, similar solid section above windscreen, painted black.

Driveability
This it a superbly smooth car, it soaks up the pot holes and speed humps with elegance and silence, the Evoques short Wheelbase make it a bit more bouncy over speed humps with the odd creak.

Very little lag/delay pulling away, although in ECO and Comfort modes it sometimes hesitates with turbo lag.

It comes with 4 modes that change Throttle response, suspension, Auto Box Characteristics, and reduces Energy using devices for more power.

Build Quality
The Interior is a very nice place to be and everything feels just that bit better quality and better put together. it's would be beautifully quiet, far in excess of the Evoque, except it's let down by a very annoying Rattle in the Dash!

Seats
Unusual leg support adjustment, all electric with memory both sides, but the Evoque seats are more comfortable to me!

Fuel Economy
Brand new engine and already driven normally returns 40mpg, carefully returns 50mpg, and I expect higher as it runs in! It has BlueTec which means every 15000miles or so you have to add AdBlue, there are 2 filling holes under the fuel cover one for deisel, one for AdBlue.

Engine
Its feels extreemly powerful compared to the Evoque and way smoother, it's a very nice diesel engine. It has Sport Plus which makes it very fast and reduces the power sucking devices like Air-Con.

Start-Stop
The system works for one, and tells you when it's not ready to stop the engine. it starts much more smoothly and has re-started before your foot can leave the brake pedal to get on throttle.

Tailgate
Electric tailgate has wave your foot to Open...and Close! And has a "Close and Lock", or "Close" button. Or you can use a door switch or the keyfob, although it's a press and hold for a second to activate.
Note: I make an Evoque Auto Close Module, so you can buy an Auto Close Evoque Module from me!

In car entertainment
2 USB you can choose between, 250GB Hard drive works seamlessly, (not in my Evoque), the rather odd iPad looking screen on the dash has a very nice interface, with Scroll wheel, touch pad and touch screen. Baumeister stereo packs some punch and just beats the Evoque 380W system.

Media player stays running when you switch off the car, until you open the door.

Tech
Endless graphics and flashy displays, although finding settings can be quite a chore. Manual in car (cant read while moving)
Limiter and cruise on a single stalk, easy to knock instead of indicators.
Touchpad build into console allows you to write letter and numbers.
Voice activation as per Evoque
Driving too close for speed indication warning.
Speed sign Recognition (not on my Evoque), but this blanks the whole screen continually for every speed sign.
You can sync the Left and Right Heating controls!

Nav
Very good system, far superior graphics, better traffic displays, although I like the simplicity of the Evoques Graphics for use while driving!

Connection
I can also find the car with my Phone and even unlock it, and tell what the service mileage is, Tyre Pressures are, and if any items need servicing like brakes etc...etc

Niggles
The Dash Rattle... big let down
Engine restarts from ECO when you put it in park just before you get out.
Seats not overly comfortable at the moment.
Footwell is encroached by the wide centre console just hindering my left foot position.
There is a Km/h display that cannot be removed on the centre screen! (Because there is No Km.h axis on the speedo)
Indicators, Lights and Wipers all on 1 stick make it quite busy.
No ability to turn off auto lights, you can have parking lights, side lights, auto lights, lights on.

Overall a lovely car, but doesn't have that special Evoque feeling... lets see how reliability fairs.

I'll add more as I get to know it better...
