I'm incredulous of this years premium.

For the past 3 years I've run 'multi-car' policies.

Last year I paid £730 with Aviva, I thought that was actually quite good.
Their renewal dropped through my door at £800 for this year - So I phoned them to ask why the 10% rise and they gave me some rubbish about general price rises.
They don't provide a general breakdown of 'price per car', but I imagined the Evoque made a large proportion of that cost.

Anyway, annoyed at the price rise with no changes in circumstances I phone around.
I ended up with Admiral (again), who do provide a breakdown.
Total Annual premium, 3 cars, 2 drivers - £452.50
- Evoque 163.52
- Shogun 144.49
- Smart 144.49

I am gobsmacked, I even phoned them after the quote to check I had ticked all the right boxes and filled it in correct. Yep, all present and correct. Absolutely incredible, I didn't even fight for more money off (like I usually do), so I just paid up and we're all set for the next year

Never really got the PCP thing, the problem I have is that the interest amount is calculated on the bulk of the car as the max deposit is 33%.

So for example if I'm getting a Pure at around £33000 the max deposit is £11000, £22000 to finance at a PCP rate with LR of 7.9%APR.

A standard loan would allow flexibility to put in as much deposit as I'm happy with and current rates of 5.1% will keep the interest charges low.

So this example could be £22000 deposit, £11000 to finance at 5.1%APR the overall cost must be lower.

I'm sure someone will say that you could invest the £11000 saved on the PCP in something else but at the moment I can't see where this will give an adequate return.

So all you PCP devotees please help me understand what I'm missing.

Against all my expectations, Admiral have come back for my first renewal with a great quote. I had expected that they offer great introductory prices when you first sign up, then hike the premium on renewal to cash in on the inertia effect of people not shopping around at renewal. As it is, the premium is up just 3%.

I'm able to insure 4 out of my 5 cars for "just" £1220; sounds alot until you know that includes cover for a Porsche 911 turbo, Ferrari F355, Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG and my Evoque. They don't like my Subaru Impreza which I insure separately for less than the cost of adding it to the multi-car policy

Within the policy, cover for the Evoque costs £267.

I suppose I represent a good risk - 50's, retired (so no commuting or business use), £1000 voluntary excess, clean licence and claims history but it's interesting that the total premium is less than I paid for just the SL55 when it was new 10 years ago (not that it does many miles other than on the back of a flat bed to the dealer to fix the latest problem).

The big question is about the pano roof on the Evoque. I have to speak to them to find out if it's covered under the glass section and make a judgment. I have had another quote for £1440 which does include cover for the pano roof.

Still works out to over £18k over that time, so it appears more prudent to purchase outright than use the Motorbility scheme. Each to their own.

WINTER TYRES – THE MOTOR INSURANCE COMMITMENT

Motor insurers recognise that some motorists may wish to fit winter tyres to their car during cold weather. Motor insurers recognise that, whilst no substitute for common sense driving, winter tyres can have a positive impact on improving road safety. In the past there has been some uncertainty for insured customers about the insurance premium implications of fitting winter tyres to their cars. To assist in reducing this potential uncertainty, the ABI has produced the Commitment set out below which sets out the position of those named motor insurers in respect of the impact on the insurance premiums of their insured customers if a customer wishes to fit winter tyres to their car.

As can be seen, often motor insurers will not charge an additional premium when their insured customers use winter tyres, provided that they meet, and are fitted in accordance with, the vehicle manufacturers’ specifications and are in a roadworthy condition.

However, some motor insurers may require you to contact them to let them know if you do choose to fit winter tyres. The name of your insurer and their contact information can be found on your insurance policy documentation (summary details are provided below). It is important to remember that sometimes your motor insurer may be different from the company that sold you your insurance policy.

This Confirmation will apply from 22 November 2011 until 31 August 2012 at which time it will be reviewed.

Please note that this Commitment only applies to cars used for personal use that are insured under a private or personal use car insurance policy.

Just a word of warning if you intend to take your Evoque off classified roads in the UK - check what your insurer defines "off road" as. On a "normal" policy you are not insured to drive off what is termed the "Queen's Highway".
Most insurers take this to be defined as any Classified road, some insurers consider that to be M,A and B classed roads. This means that if you use an unclassified road or a C/D class road in some cases you are not insured.
This has come to light recently when a member of a club I am also a member of had somebody else's car roll backwards on a slope on a track onto his car causing quite a lot of damage. The insurer (one of the mainstream direct type insurers) for the car that caused the damage deemed the owner not to be insured "because he was not driving on a classified road" . The road being driven on was a private road, tarred, but behind locked gates on a private estate. In effect he was not off road in the traditional sense of the word, but off the highway. If you want full off road cover it is included in some policies but generally not in any of of the more popular "direct" type insurers. This can also mean that you may not be insured if you take your car onto a field or up a fram lane. Please check with your insurance provider before leaving the "highway". It was queried what about supermarket car parks and the like - they are accepted to be part of the "highway".
Maybe any members working in the insurance industry might be able to clarify when on-road stops and becomes "off-road"

Hi There,

As we are getting our Evoque in Switzerland, and I have been absent for a long time in the country, I am not too familiar with the options and swiss insurance companies.

Do you guys and girls in Switzerland would have a recommendation regarding which Insurance Company would be best both in terms of services and coverage offered but also on price?

Which options do you normally choose or people tend to choose the most in a typical swiss insurance?
What about insurance coverage when traveling through other countries?

I have seen Comparis but there is a lot of unfamiliar names and companies and options and some advice would speed up the process.

Tnx a lot

Well I'm wavering.

I was hanging on waiting in vain for some decent finance offers on the LR web site. As you will see every model has an offer except the Evoque....due to demand I expect.

I was looking at a Mercedes C class Sport at the weekend. The price is about the same for a C220 auto with Navagation. £32000
What sways me to this car is that the dealer is putting about 5k towards the deposit and I pay £4000.making 36 monthly payments of £339. With a final 15k. The finance is about 5%.

Range Rover still want about 10%. That's a big difference on an expensive car.

What to do?!!

Its come to my attention that some insurers are limiting the cover for the Panoramic Roof option on Evoques. There has been a claim made by another Evoque owner (from another forum) for a 14" crack on the Pano roof (within 2 weeks of ownership) and the owner expected that it would be classed as a windscreen claim...it wasnt...its classed as a full claim and impacts no claim discounts etc.

It gets worse!

I then thought that it would be wise to check with my insurer (Admiral) what level of cover i will get on my policy if i had a chip/crack on the Pano Roof...they informed me (after double checking with the underwriters) that they would not cover the Pano Roof AT ALL...no claims allowed! So if i had a crack etc i would need to fund the replacement (£1,200.00+VAT) myself!

Can everyone reading this who is getting a Pano Roof/currently has one please check with their Insurers and report back here...

1. Are you covered as part of windscreen cover (minimal excess)
2. Are you covered as a standard claim (standard excess)
3. Are you not covered for Pano Roof claims (Full cost)
4. Name of Insurer.

Thanks

Hi all

Just wondering what finance deals have been offered for a new Evoque?

I am looking at having this over 4 years and will consider HP or lease or PCP.

Finance required will be £28,000 which is after a £5,000 deposit.

Mileage will be 30,000 per year.

With base rates and LIBOR rates so low I was hoping there are some good deals to be had.

Regards

Said no to gap, tyre, alloy wheel insurance but a new one offered this time was

Minor repair insurance - cover for scratches, scuffs, minor dents not exceeding 15cm in diameter, chips to 1.5mm

£599 for 3 years, claim limit £3k (total)

Anyone else looked into this for quotes elsewhere?

Did have a small dent removed on porsche for £60 so not sure how much this sort of insurance would be 'worth'?!
