No I investigated it, and there is no simple fix.

That's exactly what I do, use Side lights when it's a bit overcast/grey then rears are on too and I think the LED DRL's are too bright for these conditions anyway and Don't like Auto lights bringing on the Headlights so readily, I've already had one failed Ballast.
