Front Brake Pads rattling/clunking sound - Bruno787 - 08-04-2016 10:54pm

I just installed brandnew OEM front brake pads a week ago, and lately noticed some clunking noise over bumps. Lifted the car and hammered the tires, same clunking sound is replicated.

Anybody had this problem> Car only has 20,000kms mileage, and im wondering if its the "caliper brackets" where the brake pad slide into thats worn out and needs replacing.[/u]

With the wheel off you should be able to see / feel if a pad is that loose, maybe you have a clip or shim missing?. Bit surprising you had to do them at that low mileage, mine still on original pads +30000 miles later so something might be amiss.

i drive 99% in stop & go traffic, so lots of stopping every few meters

im 100% certain its the pads thats clunking, but as to whether its a manufacturing variance on the size of the new pads or the caliper brackets being worn...is my dilemma. no dealer in my city, and no evoque, or parts to compare to. Sad

the pads were installed properly with no missing parts as I have downloaded the instructions at topix

I assume wheel nuts were centralised and tightened properly after lowering the jack!

discovered today that the brake pad clips were wrongly installed causing the outer pads to slide around the caliper bracket.

its all back to original now, just like brand new Smile
