A Plethera of Errors on Dash After Rear Camera & System Charger Failures - chrisjako - 01-02-2016 01:27am

Hi All,

only had the evoque a week and already its "broken down" -2012 prestige model when I get in the car and start it it says "Rear Camera Failure" followed by "System Charger Failure"

The car will start, the infotainment works for about 10 seconds then switches of and reboots every once in a while whilst driving, the indicators don't work nor does the handbrake unless you put the car in park

When you come to switching off the car it comes up with following dash errors (after you press stop/start button)

Gearbox Failure
Temperature Sensor Failure
System Charger Failure
Rear Camera Failure

the car wont lock, electric boot wont open - you have to wait about a minute then try again and it'll then let you lock it, reading online there is a few people with battery problems but not one universal fix

have tested the battery its at about 12.8v when off and 14.6v when engine it on

Prior to this I also get a warning on info system telling me if I don't start the car within 3 minutes the car will shutdown, its always said this from the day I purchased it however reading online it doesn't for most people??!

Really peeved off as one week in if this is what we have to look forward to it'll be getting put back up for sale

Took a video of it this morning, after reading other peoples expereinces with dealers and this issue I don't know whether to take it to the dealers or an independent specialist (of whom I really trust)

Before you do anything, I'd try an ECU reset. Basically, disconnect both battery terminals, touch them together for about 30 seconds to completely drain the system down and then reconnect the battery. This often fixes weird electrical gremlins on the Evoque or in fact, most Land Rovers! When the Land rover assist guy did mine, he only disconnected one of the terminals (cant remember which one but it doesn't matter) and held it onto the other for a while.

I work in IT support - rebooting fixes 9/10 issues however on this occasion it did not, I disconnected then held a metal wrench to both terminal loom points for about 15 seconds - then left the car disconnected for about 2 hours

Didn't resolve anything Sad

Did you have the same issue as above?

P.s It will have been the + terminal he disconnected

The early models had an issue with water ingress in the Tailgate near the reversing camera, and this affected the rear camera wiring which has a CAN control bus on it causing these spurious additional messages. Quite a few had a new camera after seeing this issue.

Note it was a service bulletin, so Dealers should know about it, (they may need reminding of course)

No. My problem was with the keyless locking. It fixed it the first time but when it went again, they fitted a new keyless vehicle module.

just found this post - I am getting and have always got since purchasing hte veihicle the 3 minute warning which i thought was normal since i didnt know anything better

for £120 its worth me going and buying a new battery to see if it'll fix the issue

Thing is though the reverse camera works for the first 30 seconds when you first start up the car, if the wiring was shorted for any reason it simply wouldn't work

It works over a CAN bus, basically a car network, the wiring may lose the termination or have corroded wires changing the resistance of the Network bus, which will cause packet reflections on the Network and thus corrupt packets causing spurious errors etc.

I'm not saying it is that as it could be many things, but it's a known problem to early Evoques and something LR issued a Service Bulletin on, and it happens it causes what you are seeing, maybe your Evoque never had a fix implemented and the wires have got corroded.

I installed some dvd headrest monitors the day before these issues appeared, (basically hard wired power from the lighter socket) I drove the car for 20 mins after the install it was fine, then parked it up and next morning these issues arose - I've removed them and retested and still got same issue so i'm confident they are not the current cause however, I do think they tipped the already flailing battery over the edge - i'm going to pick the new battery now and fit it so will know in a few hours whether this was the issue or not

If this doesn't work i'll look into the rear camera to see if it works

ok let us know how you get on. And how well you find it fitting the new Battery.
