What feeds the speedo? - Nickj - 24-07-2015 08:35pm Just bought a accident damaged evoque. All bodywork and suspension work done. Garage said it needed a front abs wheel sensor, when I picked it up so I ordered one, that's being fitted tomorrow. When I went to drive home, I noticed I had no speedo, needle or electronic, and also the steering was heavy at low speeds, but seemed fine at 70mph. Does the front right abs speed sensor drive the speedo, and would the fact the speedo isn't working mean the power steering isn't adjusting? Guess I wil find out tomorrow when fitted but just interested. RE: What feeds the speedo? - PhilSkill - 24-07-2015 10:35pm The Speedo will be driven off the wheel speed sensors, via the ECU, but would have thought the Evoque had 4 sensors, so 1 failing would still allow the others to provide speed. RE: What feeds the speedo? - doug - 25-07-2015 07:06am It has Electronic Power Assisted Steering so at lower speeds the steering will firm up. I'd of thought also. Maybe there is another issue. (25-07-2015 07:06am)doug Wrote: It has Electronic Power Assisted Steering so at lower speeds the steering will firm up. Yes, presumably a speed sensor works with the power steering to enable it to adjust. Wouldn't it get lighter at low speeds? RE: What feeds the speedo? - Nickj - 25-07-2015 09:01pm Well, new abs speed sensor wire fitted to front right wheel, and all is good. Power steering now perfect, speedo perfect, dynamic suspension now all active, and all fault codes gone. Maybe the front right is a key sensor. RE: What feeds the speedo? - PhilSkill - 26-07-2015 10:55am Good news! and very interesting, must fail the speedo so it gets noticed and fixed. You always worry it may be more! Drives well now and had a play with the dynamic mode, sport selected, and paddles. Just got the dashboard to replace now. Sure that will be a nice job! |
