The dealer needs to transfer an evoque from another dealer. They ask for $2000 for non refundable deposit. Is this normal?

I had to pay 10% down when I ordered and it was also non-refundable. I'm pretty sure anywhere from 5-10% is normal.

Probably a difference between dealers rather than country.

I had to put down £1000 which was fully refundable but only up to a certain date.

Friend of mine who is a lawyer told me its illegal in UK law to withhold a deposit unless they can't sell the car (same with school fees for private schools).

So if they can't sell the car when it arrives at full price then they can keep the deposit. If they do sell it then they can't profit from your deposit.

I paid a refundable £1000, but Marshalls of Lincoln were only asking £500.

£1000 refundable deposit when I ordered the Evoque but only £500 for the Fl2.

That said, on my present Evoque I only put down £500. There was no mention re refund by me or the dealer as I had no intention of cancelling except initially when I thaught I may regret selling the Dynamic for a Pure Tech but I said to myself at that time if I lose £500 so be it.

Thanks very much! You guys are so helpful.
I just feel uncomfortable about non refundable part.I am in US. What if they can not deliver on certain date?
