Strange Noise - THEMACS - 03-03-2013 02:05pm

Have just been driving along the motorway and noticed a strange noise coming from the engine area, sounds like its an electrical relay flicking on and off intermittently. Anyone any ideas?

Called LR assistance but they can't send anyone today unless it's the AA!!! I take it they don't work weekendsEvil

I've had LR Assist (official) out on a weekend.

Just been out again and the noise only seems to appear as you press on and again when breaking, I am starting to think its more of a rattle than an engine issue, have just put a little oil in just in case it was a bit low

Did you actually check the oil to see if it actually needed topping up!!?

If the noise was caused by low oil level you'd have needed a bit more than 250 ml to top it up!Shocked

(You'd think there'd be some way of checking, though, like a dip stick!Wink)

Hi Themacs, Ticking can just be a loose belt especially if when idling like when youre braking, or pushing on with engine on load, but it could be many things, did anything else effect it like turning off aircon, blowers, heaters or anything that puts extra load on the alternator, as effects belt load and thus slip causing the tensioner to tick, best get it checked incase.

Hi Phil

I turned All other electriclas off and heater and it is when pushing on/braking, the wife has just called and said it has happened again whilst on the Motorway, I too think it could be one of the belts. LR Assistance are coming out between 4 & 5pm tonight as I am a bit wary of it being used and its service is in a couple of weeks.

Well the car has been well checked over by LR Assistance, fabulous guy came out and give the car a good looking at and a thorough test drive, the sound seems like its coming from just in front of the driver when you are driving but when a passenger sounds like it's coming from the back! Anyway after us both driving he concluded that it must be a trim issue as its definitely not electrical or mechanical which is a relief

I must say that LR Assistance where exceptional and a big thumbs up from me, plus he said that he and his colleagues look at these sites!! Laughing
