Nail In the Tyre! - THEMACS - 27-02-2013 09:47pm

I have got a puncture in the main part of the tyre that looks like it has only just happened. To me it looks repairable but I need to drive the car to a tyre fitter. Should I use the sealant repair kit or will that render the tyre knackered?

Any advice would be welcomeVery Happy

If you can avoid using the sealant then don't use it. Many tyre repair places will not repair a tyre that has been filled with sealant as they can't be bothered to clean out the gunk. If the puncture is only a slow one, pump it up and drive it to the tyre repair place.

Use the sealant and it'll be a new tyre

Sounds like the best idea I think it's quite slow and i don't fancy gunking it up!

Somehow I doubt it!

Pump it up and drive it, if it goes down, pump it up again, just go direct to the tyre centre.

I think that's what I will do, just pumped it up now and will do the same in the morning, I don't live far from the town centre. The screw is on the outer part of the tyre but I think it's far enough in to be repaired, I hopeConfused

Mrs recently had a nail in her tyre. I thought it was far enough from the sidewall to be repairable but the fitter said not. Evidently only the centre THIRD of the tyre is now classed as the repairable area, which seems just a con to get you spending cash on a new tyre IMVHO.

Her tyres only have about 6k miles on them and were almost new, which was doubly annoying.

Tyre repair guide is [using the Evoque's standard tyre specs.] :-
19" wheel x 235mm is the CENTRE 167mm
20" wheel x 245mm is the CENTRE 174mm

So :-
19" wheel it must be 34mm from the edge
20" wheel it must be 35.5mm from the edge

Of course I have provided a guide as you have not stated what size wheel you have....

Just looked and the edge of the nail is appx 35mm from the edge, so ok in theory assuming that the edge that I think is the same!

Look forward to hearing how you got on.

I had a nail in the middle of the tread but the (major name) repairers refused to fix it as they said the nail had gone in at an angle. Had me over a barrel as I needed to use the car and they had an exact replacement in stock. £££ much more than if bought online
