Fuel Smell? - sandman - 17-01-2013 07:27pm

I can smell fuel......only with heater on.

Anyone else had this issue.......search has come up with nothing.

Did you stand in some spilt fuel at the petrol station? Perhaps your foot mat needs a clean? Just a thought...

Yeah very ease to overfill and pour some fuel on your shoe, tread it over the mats and heater blows the smell up.

Have read the forum with interest since July 2011 and it is the first time have come across a fuel smell problem, hopefullly it is just some diesel transference

Had not thought of that. Set off for work this morning and got a whiff after 4 miles. Remembered your suggestion and pulled over to take a sniff of my car mats and not the faintest hint. Hmmmm.

Had a good search too and turned up nothing.

Anyway, got into work and lifted the bonnet and could definitely smell it. Car has only done 1.5k so thought it maybe some bonding agent in the air con or dash area but its definitely diesel. Will take a look when I get home in the daylight today.

Sad

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Yes there's never been a mention on this forum of fuel leaks to my knowledge, but have been a few loose water/air-con pipes, so get it checked, Dealer can put it on a ramp and see underneath properly etc just book it in with them first.

Dropped the car off at the dealer today who confirmed there was an issue / smell / leakage but could not find it without taking some other bits off (their words).

So I left it with them and came home in an even newer LR Disco which should help if it snows I suppose.

Will let you know how I get on.

I have also find out some smell, but only when I use additional heater (auxiliary?). But after some minutes driving it disappears.

Leak found from injector pipe (no 3!). Pipe removed and refitted.

Off I went with complimentary haribo and water.

Sorted.

You should have asked for a full tank of diesel for all the fuel you lostWink
