Importing Parts/Accessories from overseas. - superfox - 11-11-2012 07:18am Hey all. Just wanted to make a simple thread about international parts/accessories buying to share any knowledge or know-how. Any information is good information, especially about current rules regulations on importing, taxes, freight charges, agents for handling your goods and insurances. I currently have bulk parts I'm interested in buying from Dan at Duckworth but have little knowledge in large items being imported. The import duties and regulations I have to meet and the right agents to help my customs process. When it comes to buying the accessories for the Australian dealers we pay twice as much compared to the cars home town. So lets get the ball rolling I'm looking at importing a Dynamic kit, mud flaps, roof rails, set of rims and a few more extras to Australia. I've been advised shipping by sea is less expensive with a extra wait on delivery. I also have to organise a agent to help clear my items into the country and pay any duties, taxes necessary before receiving my goods. Basically put but is this sounding right? RE: Importing Parts/Accessories from overseas. - sethor - 18-11-2012 03:38am You need to keep your shipments under AUD$1000 (value of goods only) to avoid duties & GST which I highly recommend. Once you go over this threshold duty applies, GST is applicable on goods, freight & duty and then you will have broker fees, then you start to realize why they charge twice as much locally. I know avoiding going over the threshold is near impossible for bulk items like rims & kits, but maybe get the smaller stuff sent via air. Importing Parts/Accessories from overseas. - Filski - 18-11-2012 07:12am I'll be ordering roof rails and seat covers as well. Nearly fell off my chair when I saw the cost the dealer expected. RE: Importing Parts/Accessories from overseas. - superfox - 09-01-2013 03:33am *Update Okay I've almost got a $6000 order coming over from the UK over the next month. Now I've been advised the best possible way to avoid import duties and taxes is to have shipments bellow $1000. You can declare the value of the cargo less then $1000 but your insurance will also be lowered to the declared value. So with $6000 of valuable parts coming over from Duckworth what is a man to-do ? The best idea so fare is to separate the cargo. If I make three shipments instead of one I can have $3000 of insurance. I'll be paying more in shipment to have better insurance and less risk of import duties by spreading out my order. A $6000 package declared as $1000 will stick out like dogs balls to the customs officers. Any more idea's? Also if you want parts from Duckworth to Brisbane let me know. You can add to this massive order and save on shipment. RE: Importing Parts/Accessories from overseas. - superfox - 23-01-2013 12:09pm Another update I'm close to finalising my parts order with Dan at Duckworth's and was after some opinions. With all the parts I'm about to invest in to improve my base model pure I'd be silly not to get a second opinion. The following list consists of my pending upgrades - 1. Full Dynamic Kit front, side and rear bumpers 2. Aero flip spoiler spoiler 3. Roof rails, finisher, bars and eyelets 4. Dynamic mud flaps all round 5. Gloss black 20'' rims, black wheel nuts and centre caps 6. Black roof lining, pano sun shade, pillars, sun visor and light surrounds 7. Gloss black cup holder 8. Sunshade for windshield 9. Rotary gear selector upgrade This list with shipping and customs handling came at around £6000-£7000/ $9000-$10500 Dan has been nothing but a legend with helping me organise this list. I'm sure he's doing me the best deal possible, just hope it doesn't hurt to ask. What's your opinion can I do better on my purchase? I want the full black look in the sporty Dynamic body and this is the cheapest method I could come up with. Would appreciate any input. Cheers RE: Importing Parts/Accessories from overseas. - sethor - 24-01-2013 04:23pm Have you worked out how much it would cost to sell the car & just buy a Dynamic with wanted options+accessories? If you can spend $10k+ on parts now & it will become near impossible to recover funds in resale later on. Valid Point, but I paid $54,000 for the vehicle seven months ago, the dealer giving me a $10,000 discount is what pushed me into a sale for the pure in the first place. The price of a dynamic with the above options and mine are well into the $85,000-$90,000 mark not including the LUX TAX that sky rockets the more you spend. I'm one to hold onto my money or spend else where rather then give to the taxation department. So basically I could sell my current car now for what I would hope $48,000-$53,000 then come up with an extra $30,000-$50,000 depending on all the options and tax. Seems cheaper to do the PureNamic conversion The resale isn't really an issue, I do believe resale will be attractive as you'll have the dynamic looks and feel for a pure price. The thing with buying a Dynamic or any model as such is it's still just that model, a set based from the factory. Sure you get the options you can pick and swap with like coloured roofs and extra cameras yet I feel you don't feel like you stand out until you put a little custom work into it. Now I'm sure saving the $54,000 was a lot of work but it certainly tops it off when you've got things just the way YOU like it. As a motor enthusiast and specialised mechanic I can't help but to voice my love for this Evoque |
