What were your real alternatives when buying your Evoque (if any) ? - Belvoirbloke - 25-06-2012 09:26am

I don’t know if this exists anywhere else as a thread ?

I just read as a bit of a shock, I could have had a Porsche Boxster for the same money.
Then of course realised totally useless to me with dogs and so on.

I wondered what cars others had considered before spending their money.

My only real option was an E class estate.
It didn’t have the appeal in the end, also too long, too low, no 4x4, and previous poor quality MBs
all put me off.

I considered an AUDI Q5, but too dreary, and expensive when matched like for like, though it had a bit more boot space.

Also looked at Merc C class estate, but rear leg room was too compromised behing my driving position.

Quite liked a Jag XF but my wife wasn't a fan, she wanted a 4x4.

Would have looked at X5 but outside my budget at the time of ordering, and ford kuga just felt a bit cheap with all the plastics.

Not much else really attracted me.

I bought the RRE impulsively following a drive in one. I looked at the Audi, BMW and Jeep very, very briefly during the week I made my decision to purchase but never really considered anything else as I was happy with LR and simply wanted to downsize from the Disco.

If I didn't have to worry about kids and a dog, I would've bought another convertible - Boxster most likely or used 911. Instead, I bought the Evoque and a motorbike!

Q5 but I fell asleep looking at it, and the fact that the 'facelift' made it even more expensive. Way over priced

Q3, really ugly and overpriced. Only the screen and tech is pretty good.

X3, told to come back in a year and I might get one.

Xf estate, pretty good deals but residuals are a huge concern. Also will be poor in the snow.

5 series touring. Rubbish in winter

A5 sportback. My brother just got one! A6 avant, rep mobile.

Another Freelander, won't drive anything other than LR.

After reading so many comments about poor quality control and many major faults on new Evoques, I cancelled my order and bought a Volvo XC60 R-Design in Ice White in May.
So far, very impressed with XC60, superb build quality, and one of the quietest most comfortable cars I've ever owned! Loads of space for two dogs and whatever else you need to carry.
Would definitely advise people to have a look at the XC60, they will be pleasantly surprised at how is!

Plus 1, or as an alternative to Freelander, maybe Disco or RRS.

I went to view it mainly because of the DriveSelect auto box. Then we test drove it and my wife loved it. Its the only car my wife has been able to drive for 3 years because of arthritis in her hands.
