Saw Something Strange Today - THEMACS - 21-04-2012 10:20pm

Whilst on a motorway journey today, coming back along the M6 from Tamworth, we sae a few Evoques all going south in the opposite direction, but one stood out. It was a White 5 door Pure on an 11 plate, but the very strange thing was it didn't have ANY DRL'sExclamation Perhaps a Pre Production vehicle thats escaped the Crusher!!!

On a Side note, The Evoque and Motorway Cruising don't get on!! Well, not from an MPG point of view, 90 mile trip, average speed bang on 70mph, MPG 33, a good 70 miles was on quiet motorways. But yestrday going down to Tamworth, crappy Stop Start traffic and getting a fair old lick on on the Toll Road and we got 38 Mpg. We did a steady 80mph on the motorway today. However despite the crap MPG, it was very quiet and Refined Cruising, so Censored the crappy MPG, who gives a Stuff!!Very Happy

Maybe the dealer had turned the DRLs off for him, it is a dealer adjustable option.

Not in the UK it isn't, that would be illegal!

No it wouldn't!

It's a legal requirement in the EU to have them fitted, and that applies to the UK, but in the UK the law has never been changed to make it a legal requirement to use them, and a dealer can turn them off.

Yes, you can, but this exchange is getting a bit pointless, as clearly I am not going to persuade you. The topic has, in fact, been discussed on here before - it may be worth you searching the archive for further clarification.

Well what a pointless Exercise, everyone thinking they have to have DRL's on their new cars because EU says they do, but apparently its all B******s!!! Well you learn something new every day!!

I wouldn't mind betting that the Dealers wouldn't turn them off either, but then I guess if they did they can sleep easy that they can come to you if someone tries to Sue them!LaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughing

If the DRLs are turned off you should inform your insurance who will no doubt happily charge you more!

Curious.
Are those "laws" also applicable to ABS, Airbags etc? Do you still have old clunkers out there? What does insurance do if they not have those features?

RE: Saw Something Strange Today - tetstb - 22-04-2012 02:48am

The law states that vehicles manufactured from 2012 onwards MUST have DLRs fitted. It is not compulsory to use them and won't be until 2015 at which time vehicles with them fitted MUST use them.

It is perfectly legal to disable them for now but you must turn them back on from 1st March 2015.

Airbags are NOT compulsory but where fitted they must be clearly marked and the passenger airbag MUST be user selectable.
