Halogen Hb3 bulb functionality query - Gerbol - 18-02-2012 01:17pm

Can anyone advise if the Halogen HB3 bulb fulfills the dual function of controlling both the low & high beam, or are they controlled by separate Hb3 bulbs? In otherwords are two bulbs used in total as opposed to four?

Checked online manual but still not sure..

You only need 2 x HB3 bulbs

I highly recommend these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310367273235

I have the standard halogen bulbs and at the weekend had a look at the front headlamps.

The headlights only have one hb3 bulb per side, what LR have done is to use a flap in the headlight to allow the beam to expand for main beam, I was hoping for two as you then get double the light output but it was not to be.

Headlights are not bad for halogen however I had xenons before and I really miss them on dark nights,

There are good bulb options available though as per the thread from bfgevoque

They make xenon conversion kits for those bulbs

I've just emailed Ring about their new Ultima bulb which is apparently brighter than the 'xenon max' bulb. Hopefully whiter too. Will report back as and when I get a response as currently they don't seem to do anything in the HB3 fitting...
