Is bad smell from vents normal when car is new? - coppo110 - 19-07-2016 09:56pm

Just picked up a new '16 Evoque last week. There is an odd chemical smell coming through the vents from the engine compartment. It's what I imagine cat pee would smell like if it were burning...

The smell is very strong, especially when you get going from a stop, and is very noticeable outside the vehicle coming from the engine area. If I put the manual re-circ on the AC it's more tolerable inside the car.

My question is whether this is normal for these cars, burning off chemicals and sealants from the factory? Or should I take it in to the dealer to have a look (or smell)? My DiscoverySport definitely did not have this issue, and since it's the same engine I'm suspecting there's a problem.

Thanks!

Hi and Welcome

I got this a little when new when the DPF first did a regeneration (Diesel), but as you're in the States I imagine you have a Petrol (should that say Gasoline), In which case if it's gone on for more than a few hundred miles i'd be getting it checked.
