Tyre load ratings - 99 or 103? - Steve D - 17-06-2016 06:50am

Looking at replacing my tyres with Pirelli Verde Scorpion all season 245/45/20 tyres and I have a choice of standard (99) or XL (103) load ratings. I have 103 rated tyres on at the moment (OE fitment for continentals I believe) but all vehicle tyre configurators show a 99 rating for the tyres for my vehicle when I input the reg number. I have read of other Evoques coming with a 99 load rating from new.

The cost is not the real issue but I was thinking that standard tyres with a 99 rating will give a less harsh ride on 20" wheels.

Opinions please?

Mine was supplied from the factory with 20" 99 rated Scorpions. I also have winter tyres on 18" wheels and I don't find the ride much harder with the 20s, just the steering is a bit sharper.

If/when the time comes for me to replace the 20s, I would have no hesitation in going for 99 rated Scorpion Verdes again. They are an excellent tyre and these Pirellis have a tread pattern with lots of small sipes that look very similar to my winter tyres, so I would expect them to perform very well in snow/ice. The OE Contis and Michelins don't seem to have such a pattern.

My OE Pirelli Scorpion Verdes (on 19 inch wheels) are 105s

I'm probably going for the Verde's - can get them for £106 each and fit them myself.
