RE: Td4 Vs SD4 - Westy - 02-08-2012 08:04pm

I have the td4 and whilst I am very happy with the performance, the extra torque of the sd4 is noticeable, back in October On an evoque experince day in cheshire i drove a td4 and was really pleased as I had already blindly ordered one,

I also had the chance to drive an sd4 auto which was rapid, I agree around town the cars will seem very similar, for me the td4 is ideal.

If you tow or carry more passengers then the extra horsepower will come in handy. For me though it is just right

My td4 has a single tailpipe and looks like the picture earlier

I honestly don't notice much difference in power between my Td4 Freelander and my SD4 RRE. My choice of the RRE Prestige SD4 was largely based on getting AD and a slightly better approach and departure angle than the Dynamic (in fact, may have gone for the Pure Td4 if AD had been available as an option for it). I think the Td4 Pure is a great buy. Hope that helps.

Thought I would mention

300 mile drive loaded with ........... Obstacles and load, great test for mpg !!

And did 29mpg td4, more power is always nice though

Thanks, some really useful answers and experience there, especially from those of you who've actually been able to compare the two. I think the thing I've just got to get my head round is how an increase in horsepower of 30% can make such an almost negligible difference to performance - it just makes me wonder why LR even bother with the two variants.

I have the TD4 and in Australia we only get the auto. I tow a 18 foot bow rider with mine and there is no problem. Around town there is no issue with the TD4. Not sure of the difference when comparing with manual boxes though

Because people like choice, if they only offered the 150 some people would want more power , so they offer a 190. If the only offered a 190 some people would say why do i need a 190bhp , so they offer a 150 bhp

And they can also charge a chunk more cash for very little technical change.

If the 150 had been the only choice , would i have thought it was good enough.

Yes !

Did i order one

No

Why, because i only ever got to test drive a 190, plus the only other consideration would have been the ed4 and i could not test drive one

The 190 revs better & accelerates a bit better.

For day to day usage there would be not alot of difference 150 to 190 imo
