The ECU operates "open loop" (without O2 sensor feedback) much of the time. The bike will run fine with the O2 sensor disconnected completely -- no check lights, no "limp home"..

Right, what riders of our bikes seem to be reporting is, they are getting less "hunting" and less of the "open throttle" feel when they come OFF power. Personally, my K1200R is smoother than a playboy bunny's butt. However mine is also dead stock. Nevertheless, it is possible to mess up the ECM with a software up date. And yeah, we really miss Alfa in the USA.
