RE: Engine noise from Cold Start - :Update - caseaddict - 20-11-2012 03:17pm

Hi

Problem still not sorted as started it from cold this morning and sounded as bad as before it went in for repair.

Im seriously thinking about handing this vehicle back as its been over a year now and still no repair for this annoying noise.

£40,000 on a vehicle that cant be used in the rain.....Crazy

Been there this morning after 3 days stood in the cold and now rain.

It's one helluva screech!

I also have had this noise twice.
Both times on damp mornings after it has been not used for a couple of days.
Goes after about 10 seconds or so. Definately sounds like a squealing belt slipping.
That said, I am far from being knowledgable on cars.
Oil, air, water, fuel - drive! That's my lot!
Was a bit worrying though when I first heard it

I have the same thing with my car which I have had for two weeks and on two cold mornings, it's made a clinking noise about 6 times and then it's fine. Only had it twice so hopefully this is the last. I spoke to the garage and they said if it continues then bring it in but as our friend is experiencing, I doubt very much they will replicate the same issue!

My wife has had the same issue as stated earlier in this thread, car is booked into Land Rover to have some mounting brackets changed. Was told it was now a known problem within Land Rover and may also be related to the engine cover moulding. Her Evoque is booked in for the 10th of December , so will see if problem will be fixed. The problem is so intermittent that I will not believe it is fixed for at least 3-4 months. She has had the problem 4-5 times since February

Hi

To add im still having issues with the noise.

Its a design fault as the bonnet grills are letting water drip onto the alternator belt which is causing the screaching noise on wet or damp mornings.

My car made that exact noise this morning from cold start

Couple of revs and it cleared up

Deffo sounded like a slipping belt to me

Hi

Take it back to the dealer and get it looked at as it does get worse over time and very loud

Watching the video I would say its water dripping onto the belt. You can see the water on top and the drip marks running down the side, right onto the belt. Had this twice on mine, both after heavy rain over night.

Hi all , should have posted back , I sent the video to my local dealer as they said they could find nothing wrong. They changed a mounting , but it deid not fix the problem although it has only happended once since Xmas. I also had an email from the Head of Service at the LR garage asking that phone Land Rover Customer Relations as the garage had raised a fault against my car and this might help push it through.
