I believe all new orders should go to the end of the waiting list, and any cancellation prior to being 'locked in' should allow the next in line to moved up. This still would not relieve the problem of some people waiting months longer than others, due to the way cars are allocated to dealerships from LR.
It's really up to us the buyers to shop around the dealerships for those with the shortest order list, which is what I did. But to do this you need to know the salesman are being honest with the waiting list information. The real information before ordering is, 1) What is the dealership allocation from LR, and 2) How many are on the waiting list. The rest you can work out for yourselves.

Just had a call from LR - build date was supposed to be yesterday, the car is built! picked up this week, and handover scheduled for next Monday, 30th April! Exciting times.........

Ditto again. Although I will be picking up on Tuesday, I'm having the car detailed on Monday.
