RE: Sd4 fuel consumption help.... - BA74 - 23-06-2013 07:51am Have heard comments before short trips in a diesel is bad for them and if using for this purpose the go the petrol. This true and does it impact diesel economy? Sd4 fuel consumption help.... - gibbyd - 23-06-2013 11:05am 37k covered and if I drive like my granny I get 40 mpg and if I drive like my son I get 35 mpg. Best I got was 44,3 mpg in the summer. Temp above 18 deg seems to make quite a difference. Continual short trips aren't great for the diesel and the particulate filter, you need to give it some long runs. It's more economical on longer runs than shorter runs by a fair margin. RE: Sd4 fuel consumption help.... - ziyao - 24-06-2013 05:27am Had a few go with my Auto Pure TD4 Evoque after delivery 2 weeks ago, I'm getting 7.2-8.5 L/100km on average, not 1 tank yet. But what I've noticed is sometimes 2nd and 3rd gear reved until 3500 rpm before shifting up, and doesn't shift down often when slowing, I came from a manual car and has a habit to downshit before the red light and upshift at the right rev too. So the second week I started overwriting the gear shifting timing (commandshift manually, not reprogram) and noticed significant improvement on average fuel consumption from 8.x to 7.x L/100km, I guess it'll be good for longer breakpad and tirewear too. eg: always shift around 2.5-2.8k rpm, and downshift sequentially before stopping/redlight etc. For those experiencing high fuel consumption, try this method for a tank and see how it goes. By the way for all downunders, has anyone tried different type of diesel ? eg: shell vs Vortex diesel vs BP diesel? No BP ultimate diesel in Victoria tho. and which one gives you the best mileage/power? With my previous petrol car, I find Vortex 98 and Shell V power 98 gives me the best performance and 8-10% better mileage than 91, not sure that's the case for different type of diesel? RE: Sd4 fuel consumption help.... - berlin2011 - 24-06-2013 10:20pm Chantel82, agree it seems way too high - I've had my SD4 for all of 10 days now (coming from an Si4 I had for 18 months) and I've been amazed at how frugal the SD4 is, at least compared to the Si4. In the week and a bit I've done about 1,000km's and got 7.5l/100km on first tank (trip computer said 7.2l but actual liters put in came to 7.5l) - 2nd tank currently showing 7.4l/100km. Considering our speed limits are a little more lenient than yours (120km/h) on freeways etc. I'd have thought you guys ought to get better consumption than us in S. Africa. Perhaps wishing for 7.x perhaps not realistic, but anything over 10 is really high. RE: Sd4 fuel consumption help.... - Biker - 26-06-2013 01:52am City traffic in Sydney can wreak havoc on fuel consumption. That stop/go/crawling every morning (do I hear M5, M2, Pacific Highway, Military road?) traffic on my big V6 petrol engine certainly does that. I got consumption from Goulburn to Sydney (Not in evoque) of 14.5 km/l, but in city traffic it drops to 6.5km/l Incidently, my 3.0l diesel ute consumption never varied nearly as much in South Africa, irrespective of city driving or open road. 10-11km/l RE: Sd4 fuel consumption help.... - Lea Lea - 11-07-2013 11:26am I do all short trips, kids to school etc and I average 9.3l/100kms. Yours sounds excessive! |
