In sport, which I prefer, ( but its the same in D ) I find that on take off the gearbox defaults to second gear, which is why I believe many people complain of slow initial take off, so, whenever I need to make a quicker getaway I always paddle it into first.Plus one. Use them regularly on my daily 20 mile commute through Aberdeenshire B roads. RE: Is Paddleshift Pointless? - cjfp - 12-07-2012 01:26pm They certainly would be pointless on my car !! RE: Is Paddleshift Pointless? - PhilSkill - 12-07-2012 01:45pm Yeah! if you need paddle shift... buy a Manual RE: Is Paddleshift Pointless? - deadliner - 12-07-2012 06:56pm I just like it! Yep we have no choice, auto only, so they do help. RE: Is Paddleshift Pointless? - JiiPee - 13-07-2012 10:04am Bit off the topic but couldn't find it anywhere else. About the sport mode: when I picked up my car the dealer said that on a diesel engine the sport mode is actually quite useless for some strange reason that I could not quite fathom. Why is that, anyone? RE: Is Paddleshift Pointless? - deadliner - 13-07-2012 10:12am Perhaps because you get maximum torque early as opposed to petrol engines. Petrol engine has to be kept in high revs to get maximum performance. But I don't think Sport is useless, because max torque comes early but not from the beginning. So higher revs are fine. Second thing, sport mode makes the car to stay in lower gear and does not downshift, etc.... So to wrap it, S is good with diesel as it is with petrol (but with petrol it is a little more desired function ) |
