I had that happening as well and replaced the very old USB stick with the newer one - no issues now at all.

I'm using a brand new HDD, I wonder if its caused by a delay during reading and this causes the system to reset the device, trouble is sometimes the device doesn't re-connect.

Would be interesting to find out from LR what the IO speed of the drives should be, I have a feeling they will only support SSD, USB Key Drives or MP3 Player (i.e. iPod, MS Zune or similar).

I haven't managed to get any USB sticks or hard drives to work at all yet, so I'm just sticking with iPod for now.... Can anyone recommended any makes of fairly large USB sticks that they know work?

Yeah better device compatibility information would be useful, the HDD works fine for days on end then it'll cut-out out of the blue, happened twice on the journey to Halewood, 2 1/2 hours on motorway, but rest of the time it played flawlessly, not related to bumps as can happen when smooth as silk. Also Halewood to Oxfordshire on the return and DAB radio perfect reception the whole way Very Happy

Tried a brand new 32Gb Cruzer Stick, put my complete collection from the HDD on it ~25GB and was worse than my HDD, would barely play a track before locking up or disconnecting. Back to the Freebie Evoque 4GB stick with a few albums and its working fine so far. Will now try reducing the number of files on both to see if it has any effect...

If it's happening when the drive gets pretty full, it might well be a read/write speed issue, as it may be taking longer to read the table of contents.

Anyone know the quoted read speeds of their drives? both those that work and those that don't in order to compare and possibly try and rule this out?

RE: USB suddenly disconnecting while Playing - PhilSkill - 30-03-2012 06:33pm

Just done some read/write speed tests with my USB devices.

Working 4GB Freebie Stick... Write speed, 5.3Mb/s, Read Speed 16.5 Mb/s
Non-Working 32Gb SanDisk Cruzer Class 10, Write speed 4.3Mb/s, Read Speed 16.6Mb/s
Occasional Failure 250GB Freecom HDD ToughDrive, Write Speed 21.3Mb.s, Read Speed 27.6Mb/s
