Dad in law getting his new x3 next leek. Although Eco is good. Looks not so great. The 8 speed gear box very nice to drive. And the on paper mpg values very appealling

Yes your right on paper looks great, but having seen both cars now the Evoque wins hands down in terms of overall design, quality etc (just reservations on performance).

That's quite a bit extra weight to haul around. Still, I'd rather take good looks over efficiency. BMs are ugly, IMO.

In AutoCar this week they have done a test of official MPG vs Real World and surprisingly the FFRR V8 diesel did 33mpg overall vs the official figure of 30.1mpg Combined. In the past I have always used the lowest official figure (usually Urban) then added a couple of mpg to reach a figure of what I expect to achieve. Hence my thoughts I would get about 37mpg from my SD4 Auto Evoque. However if this article is to be believed I should see 45 - 47mpg which if that was the case I would be over the moon.

BTW the BMW achieved only 90% of its claimed combined figure.

Wouldnt the Evoque have under gone similar tests by its engineers in its design/test phase - i.e: why isnt there data available?

Yes it would have done, and these are probably the figures that LR have quoted. The official figures though are carried out by a government test centre on a rolling road under very strict parameters - not real world driving conditions. What Autocar have done is take a selection of cars out onto the roads and conduct a 'proper' test, i.e. what you and me will actually be able to achieve.
What they found was that some of the official figures were a little pessimistic ( FFRR V8 ) while others were optimistic BMW. If that holds true for the Evoque then hopefully we can expect a few more MPG than those quoted. Very Happy

Paulus599 - thanks for clarifying!

I guess this may also explain why figures by LR for urban & extra urban mpg for the Evoque have been provided on the Australian LR website but not UK - due to legislation, and perhaps government testing yet to be carried out (Kermit provided link few threads up to Evoque specs for Australia).

For the Australian figures to be publicly available means the cars have undergone official ADR testing.
