Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - QUATTROMAN - 29-10-2011 05:35pm Found this video - check the lights out -about 27 seconds in - Perhaps there is a secret menu that can make the DRL's do this - Imagine a Fuji White Evoque comming up behind you with these activated -you would certainly get home for your tea faster maybe your wallet will be lighter for impersonating a police officer... ''err sorry officer, must be a software error from Land Rover ... RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - doug - 29-10-2011 05:50pm Very strange. There not "wig wag" lights so my guess is just the sun light acting on the camera lens. Or may be this is the reason behind the delays of Xenon lights if this fault could happen. What ever the reason they look cool RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - cjfp - 29-10-2011 06:03pm I believe this is a 'camera trick' - I don't mean one specifically set-up etc, but LEDs work by flashing hundreds of times a second and filming works by taking a large number of pictures per second, so you get this strange effect sometimes. It's a bit like when you look at a helicopter rotor spinning but it seems to be staying still (but you obviously know it's not). Hope that's as clear as mud. RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - Ezandania - 29-10-2011 06:09pm Hmmm...thats a cool feature to have. Imagine if you can make it to strobe or to trail (running from one led bulb to another, like a robot)... Definitely A baller's mod! RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - defender_uk - 29-10-2011 06:24pm that would certainly create a stir...... I think what you meant to say was how LED screens flicker if you took a video of it, when there actually was no flicker....? Something to do with framerate? RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - fisha - 29-10-2011 08:15pm Quote:but LEDs work by flashing hundreds of times a second and filming works by taking a large number of pictures per second Yup - its essentially that. The LEDS are driven by pulseing them on and off many times a second ( not really sure why modern light units do it that way, rather than pushing a steady current through the LEDS - they would light up the same - maybe some sort of failure checking method ? ) Its the camera's framerate and more importantly its shutter speed which causing the footage to see the flicker. In very bright light conditions ( such as the video ) , the shutter speed will increase greatly ( or in other words, the time the camera opens up to the light is reduced ) in order to get the right amount of light into the camera for each frame. You could be talking about individual frame shutter speeds of 1/500th of a second or less easily. If that shutter speed is quicker than the individual pulses of the LEDs, then some frames it'll see the pulse on, and some the pulse off. Hence the flickering effect on the vid. RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - nishandf - 30-10-2011 03:18pm Flicker like that would not be UK road legal. RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - QUATTROMAN - 30-10-2011 04:17pm I agree with fisha that it must be something to do with the settings of the cam due to finding a second vid with even stranger things happening with the DRL's on the white dynamic Evoque about 33 seconds in. link to vid by same people in Jordan :- There are a few more by the same production people worth a view one i found especially unique is almost in 3d :- RE: Can this be done with the Xenon DRL's - defender_uk - 30-10-2011 04:26pm that is really odd! would be so cool.... |
