Winter tyres are a softer rubber, with extra sips or cuts in the rubber blocks to make them move more easily to allow grip on snow and ice and they will catch snow to form a snow to snow grip. Thin tyres are usually better in snow as wide tyres have to flex over the uneven surfaces, and the higher profile sides are better for giving more flexibility too.

Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow look good for the Evoque specifically designed for SUV's.

+1

The softer rubber means they don't go ridged/hard in cold conditions meaning that they are more pliable which leads to a lower speed rating.
