Anyone got any experience with either OE or aftermarket dog guards?

Use one?
Any good?
OE or aftermarket?

Going to be for a small dog, Jack Russell in fact, so really looking for something that does not occupy the whole boot area in a 5-door. maybe also easily removed if not required all the time.

In summary, I had a full height OEM barrier fitted and it was a nightmare...

- Hard to fit (took Stratstone several hours over a couple of days)
- Had to go back twice due to poor fit
- Design is poor

In the end, they failed to resolve the fit issue and in addition, it makes the car very impractical as it's not easy to remove and as such there is no opportunity to put rear seats down to increase luggage capacity.

Stratstone were very good about it and changed it to a half height barrier which is much better and suits my needs (i.e. still allows golf clubs to be stowed with rear seats folded down). However, this suits me as I have a big dog and my little dog sits on the wife's lap. I originally wanted the full height so that we could have the little dog in the boot with the seats down so he could still see us. If you only have a small dog, not sure what the half height barrier achieves other than protecting the leather head restraints assuming the dog can reach them.

Hope this helps, although not sure it does!
I have a Labrador & have decided not to fit a guard, he is very good & stays in the back but I have ordered one of these & it fits like a glove

I have this installed in my 5 door, the quality is excellent and it sits very rigid behind the headrests plus there are no rattles or movement at all, and you can take it out in minutes..

Thanks for the tips.

The paddock one looks good.
TRAVALL - honestly best bit of aftermarket kit i have ever bought for a car. Cheap, easy to fit/remove, absolutely rock solid, 100% reccomend it.

Even tried to get a one for the mrs car, they didnt make one to fit but said if i brought the car down to them and allowed them to use it to design one i could then have one for nothing from them. I would have snapped theor hands off if i didnt live 300 miles away.
cutter7 where did you get your side guards from? Were they custom made? I am looking at getting those in future so that the car fabric interiors are protected from dog hairs. Thanks.
nevermind.. lol.. just saw it was a hatchbag. Looks great! Will definitely consider it when we get our Evoque.

Just realised that you noticed the company...Laughing
Thanks Bessiebella and cutter7. The dogguards are definitely something I am thinking about for when we purchase our evoque. I think instead of the metal mesh, it might be cheaper to get the rear seat flaps.Wink
