Hello Forum Members:

While speaking with the dealer, he mentioned, there is quiet considerable oil consumption possible with TD4 engine,... and I should seriously check every 1000km or so (???)

This seems absolutely excessive.

I only covered cca 2.500 km from new and no consumption occurred,...

What is your experience ???

BR : Miha

p.s. I have experience with really "oil-thirsty" Audi A6 2.0 TDi 2007 engine - it uses 2l / 15.000 km - the dealer said it is normal and since I had operational leasing for company car - I didn't care - oil was for free Smile
Good evening

I have now covered 26000km and I have added 2 litres in this period, the first 1.5 before the 14000, the oil consumption has now slowed down.

There are many warning systems fitted so I would no worry too much. Low level, obviously keep an eye but my experience is that it slows down, I think Tim did a post a while ago on this subject.

The other thing is that the main hardware of the engine is the same as the sd4 so oil consumption should be no better or worse between models.

Hope this helps you

Top Up Oil

It does soak up some oil in the first few 1000 miles, so just give it a check, it a new car, make sure all is well.
Checked mine today after a 1000 mile trip to Austria, top speed reached was 130 mph/ 220 kph and no oil usage.
I have used 1ltr in 13,000 miles and that was in the first 5000. Since then virtually nothing.
12500km, put about 250ml in on the 2nd day (suspect it was low on delivery) and used nothing since.
Never checked...oops!

Service round the corner...I'm sure that Stratstone will do a fantastic job of checking for me!

However, I was once told by a mechanic friend to change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles...now that is quite a hefty investment when using good oil so not so keen to be honest...however, when I did this in my old cavalier SRI (using National Tyres and Exhaust who used to do it for about £20!!) I got 220,000 trouble free miles out of what was essentially, a pretty rubbish car!!

Maybe something in this...
So far when I've checked mine at 2500miles 1ltr required, at 5000 miles half a litre required, hoping next check it will require none.

Last time got an annoying bonnet open warning that required me to reseat the bonnet even though it was clearly down properly the first time.
