pretty much all the same, I went for one that was small so it wouldn't get damaged putting things in and out of the one and only cubby;

It is very small, so much so it's quite intricate to get ou!
Works fast browsing though, much quicker than browsing the SD card in my VRS!

I just bought a play.com branded one 32gb for 16 quid. It works fine.

Mine takes 20 - 30 secs to connect - does that seem to be the standard?

nope !
Mine takes about 2 - 3 secs and is nearly full !
the transfer rate of the stick would have something to do with it, some cheap sticks might not perform well

Going to give this one a try as so far I only have 1 4GB that has worked faultlessly, I also have a new Cruzer blade 32gb and that barely works at all! the 4GB one connects in seconds and it has nothing to do with the speed of the device as have faster and slower cards than the 4GB device.
