RE: wingmirrors aftermarket ? lrx style

From an MOT perspective there is nothing to stop you fitting aftermarket mirrors (if anyone produced them!!)so long as you can get a view to the rear. You only need (on a right hand drive car) an interior and an offside mirror. I think though that an aftermarket mirror would be particulary expensive given all the extra bits such as built in indicators (which you have to retain as they have replaced the side repeaters and this is an MOT point also), sensors (Im sure there is a temp sensor in one) and especially on those models with cameras and the like.

I perfer the larger mirrors. I drive buses/coaches for a living so it is something I am used to. I drove my brothers focus and the mirrors on that just felt to small and didn't give me enough vision.

They are great for seing things coming from behind, but present huge blind spots together with thick A pillars, for things at about 11 o'clock (LHD car).

Today my wife almost hit a pedestrian as he came from "nowhere", probably being hidden by the mirror. Not too dangerous as it was at very low speed while taking off.
