When do you get a chassis number?

Just following on from my other post, I am a little confused as to when a chassis number is allocated in the build process. My dealer said he could see from the computer system that the body had been pressed and that there wasn't a chassis number yet but he expected early next week at which point it would only be a few of days before it is called over, is this correct?

In a word, yes. The VIN number is allocated quite late in the build process.

Hmm, I was led to believe it was right at the start of the build process!

OT: I have both the VIN and the reg (assigned by Halewood) but it isn't showing on topix.

My Evoque arrived at the dealership before it showed on TOPIx

I didn't get the Chassis number until it was ready to be delivered, after it had been built, but before it got to the dealer.

ah, so it's not just me.

Well I don't have a chassis number, but LR Customer services have been on this morning and said that the car is with their sales guys going through final QC and that it should be at the dealers within a week!! Hopefully we may get it this Saturday!
