When are generated the VIN number?

Sorry for my English, I would like to Know when are generated the VIN number? If someone to know it... Before of the built car or at same time, or posterity?

Good question...when is the VIN number generated?
1. Before the car is built?
2. During build time?
3. After build time?

Does anyone know?

On another thread I think it was said that the Vin number is visible on the Vista system only once the car has been delivered to the dealer - it's obviously generated a lot earlier than that tho as it's needed at the assembly stage.

I understand that the VIN number is allocated at start of the build, when the chassis goes down. The VIN has details of the car, model, type etc as part of the numbering - Google is wonderful you know Laughing

Now a Jag XFR Kyanite Blue - wow what power.
At home and superb.
